hey guys,

The MH-C9000 WizardOne was like 50 bucks at newegg.ca and that's a great price this side of the border so I didn't hesitate to order one.

However, I'm a little inexperienced and I've been accustomed to simpler chargers. The MH-C401FS which served me so faithfully these years only had a slow and fast toggle and that was the extent of my involvement in the process.

So anyway, the C9000 came with four powerex brand rechargeables (these any good?) and I figure the best thing to do would be to test the charger to make sure everything is in order. After reading the manual, it seems like the "Refresh and Analyze" option would be the way to go. In the manual it says this is good when "battery capacity needs to be determined" so I suppose as long as it's close to the 2700mAh advertised on the batteries I should be good to go, right?

What do guys suggest I do as a diagnostic / first-use test? Mainly I wanna know my charger is working as it should be.

I would recommend throwing those nimh away and buy sanyo eneloops :twothumbs

You may test the unit by fully charging the batteries and do a discharge test

Yep, that's the plan, just looking on a good deal on the eneloops.

Thanks for the advice, I'll charge and then discharge.

First of all, Aloha and welcome ZimbuTheMonkey!

Don't throw them away because they are good for other things like remote controls or dslr flashes like I use mine for. Mine never got up to 2700mah but they are still decent batteries. I've been doing a weekly self-discharge test on several brands of aa and aaa batteries and so far the powerex 2700's are still at 100% (using a zts mbt-1 battery tester) going on 14 weeks now.

Check out the Shoppers Drug Mart flyers every week.

About once a month they have a sale on Duracell Pre-Charged batteries (white top ones are relabelled Eneloops).

Also, the updated Eneloops have hit Costco in the US, so they should be showing up here as well soon.

Hi ZimbuTheMonkey, and welcome to CPF!

Yes, running the "Refresh and Analyze" mode on some cells a couple times would be a good way to verify that your C9000 is working properly.

As for the Powerex 2700's, I wouldn't throw them away! They are good cells, similar to the Sanyo 2700's. You just have to understand their limitations. For example, they are best used in low to medium drain devices, don't tolerate being abused very well (eg. overcharging, over discharging, reverse charging etc.), and generally don't have as long a life expectancy as lower capacity, or LSD NiMH cells.

Enjoy your C9000!

Dave

Haha, nah I had no intention of tossing them. I'll just use them in tv remotes.

Thanks for the advice, guys, much appreciated.
