newbie mod help

Hi I have very little experience doing any modifying but really what to learn. I just what to bounce this by you… I am receiving a UV cree xlamp as a gift and I wanted to put it in a mini-mag. The specs I was able to get for it are 3.0 volts, 350 mA. I was advised to make sure the voltage was at least 4 and use a resistor, but could this run straight off the 3 volts from the mag or would it be advantageous to power the light with 3 '2/3' AA for 4.5 volts and use a 5ohm 1watt resistor. I'm treading cautiously as I don't want to 'fizzle' my new light. Please all advise is more then welcome.
