Just bought my first "better" flashlight - a Surefire G2 Led.

It is amazing. Makes my older lights seem like toys.

But i have a problem - in the house, it is so bright that it destroys any night vision.

So you buy a red filter for it?

Or do you need to buy a light with a low-output beam option?

A red filter will help but I find that red filters really kill the output of LED lights. I guess there is not as much red in the output of the LEDs as regular incan lamps.

You may find that with a red filter you still can zap your night vision. I like less than 1 lumen of white light, to help preserve night vision. Red filters help if you do not have a low low light.

I was looking at that red filter . . .

but which is a better choice?

a red filter on a G2 or something like an SR L1
