Hello All,

I a newbie to this Forum but long time flashaholic. It's nice to see a Forum geared towards a light-nut like myself.

Anywho, here's my question(s):

I have a SureFire 9Z with the P91 bulb. Output is great at 200 Lumens, but I'm looking for more. Any suggestions for a higher light output?

Also, I recently called SF and they suggested getting the Turbohead with the N2 lamp which would give me a tighter beam but @ 105 lumens. Now, I expect that this SF tech would know what he's talking about but 200 lumens vs. 105 lumens is a bit of a stretch. Anyone care to add to this? What if I got a Turbohead and opted for an MN61 @ 350 lumens or an MN21 for a stunning 500 lumens? Problem here is I don't know if either one will fit the Turbohead assembly.

Ok, nuff rambling.

Any help from you veterans would be appreciated.

G'day Lsaulog,

From my knowledge, the N2 is just a turbohead version of the p90. You cant put an mn61 or an mn21 on a 9ZT as they are for the M4 and M6.

Geoff

Geoffchan, you are correct, sir. MN60, MN61, MN62 are for M4 and MN20,MN21 are for M6.

You will be pleasantly surprised with the intensity of a classic 9-volt system with a Turbo Head. I have a couple of the older 3" reflectors. I think they may still be available. Get em before they disappear into history. All of our current Turboheads are 2 1/2 inches.

Putting a 200+ lumen lamp assembly in standard reflector is about the limit for the reflector diameter/lamp technology combination. It is diminishing returns.

The 9P/Z with a turbohead is still one of my favorite lights. Why? It takes light that would have been scattered and redirects it back to the center, creating a clean, reach out and touch beam.

Need more that the 105 lumens than the N2 emits?

You can also go with the lamp assemblies associated with the 9-volt Millennium M3 system, which would give you either 125 or 225 lamps assemblies.

They would be the MN15, MN16

The beam will be slightly oval compared to the standard N2 because the filimants are a bit thicker.

The MN16 (225 lumens) has a noticeably larger, very clean hot spot. Just keep in mind that anytime you double your lumen output on any given system, you approx 1/3 your runtime. Thats why I run still run the N2 in many cases. Good balance of intensity/runtime.

Ken J. Good
Director of the SureFire Institute

Ken is right, the MN16 beam is superb.

I use the N2 instead of the MN15 when I don't use the MN16. This is because even though the MN15 is brighter and whiter, the N2 beam is very round, and perfectly flawless, whereas the MN15 is like "squashed" that doesn't appeal so much to me.

My advice is to put a KT2 on your 9Z and get an MN16 and loads of SF123As!

Al

Wow gentlemen, thank you all for your valued input.

I've been enlightened.

Mr. Good, thank you for taking the time to respond to my request for help. It's comforting to know that SureFire puts as much effort into supporting their customers as they do making exceptional products.

And so, I begin my quest for a 3" Turbohead reflector and an MN16 LA.

Thank you again, one and all.

If anyone has both, how would you compare the current 2 1/2" turbo head to the 3"? TX

I have the Classic 3" and Classic 2.5" Lexan Lens SureFire TurboHeads.
I have both Lexan and Pyrex Millennium TurboHeads.
I do not have a "KT" 2.5" Pyrex TurboHead however I assume the Pyrex lenses are the same as Millennium Pyrex TurboHead.

I have the ability to compare the N2, MN15 and MN16 in three different TurboHeads side-by-side-by side, or I can compare a variety of lamps in various TurboHead - What would you like to know?

The 3" TurboHead produces a tighter beam then the 2.5" - Some may not be able to spot it though... Some lamps are better then others for showing off a tighter beam.
The Pyrex gives a brighter, whiter light then Lexan.

The MN16 in a 3" TurboHead is cool but I find the 3" too big for any light except the 12PM.

My advice is to get a KT2 for your 9Z.

Al

Thanks Al, that was what I wanted to know. I think I'll buy a KT1 or 2 T-head along with the "other" lamp so I can go 6V or 9V turbo. I'll probably stay away from the MN16 lamp for now. If I feel the need to burn batteries, I'll pull out the 12PM.

I need some clarification on this.

From what I understand, Ken J. Good is saying that the 9 Volt 9P and 9Z, when fitted with Turboheads use the N2 105 Lu LA.
Since the only difference between the KT1 or KT2 Turbohead kits is the LA supplied with them, either a KT1 or KT2 will do.

The 125 Lu MN15 and 225 Lu MN16, are actually designed for the M3T. But they are usable in either the KT1 or KT2, provided that the body used is a 9V ?
