I bought a cree r2 drop-in in May and it worked perfect with two rechargeable cr123's (3.7v) I recently lost the light I had it in, so I bought a new drop in aswell as a new surefire 6p to put it in. The drop in worked fine with primaries, but when I put in the rechargeables it killed the drop in almost instantly. I assumed this was a defective r2, and contacted the seller. He sent me a new one... and same thing happened. Any one else have this problem with newer r2's?

I'm not gonna bother telling the seller this time, I'll just use the malkoff m60 I ordered, at least I know that will work.

There are countless P60 drop ins called R2s you just got what you paid for. You buy cheap you buy twice. There is no issue with the Cree XRE R2 bin.

Sounds like another incident of using a drop-in that was not designed to handle the volts provoded by two 16340 cells (7.4 - 8.4v) :poof:

The problem is not with the LED. Most likely you are exceeding the voltage requirements for that drop in with the rechargeables and blowing the driver.

The ones I bought were supposed to be able to handle up to 9v. Oh well, live and learn.

You're not the first person to report this issue with drop-ins in the last week.

EDIT: Here is the other thread. It sounds like it, but did you get yours from eBay as well?

If so, I bet both of you got your drop-ins from the same seller.

Yep, eBay. It was a US seller who I'm guessing bought his supply from DX. I've bought an R2 from DX before and it didn't work when I got it. I don't plan to buy from them, or any one that buys from them, again.

The thing that gets me is that I had bought from the guy on eBay before and it worked fine. That's why I was wondering about these newer ones.
