I spend my last vacations in Madagascar (indian ocean, a beautiful country). As Madagascar is in the south hemisphere, it is now the winter, which means the sun sets at 5:30PM. Electricity is available very few hours a day and in most parts of time there isn't any public lighting. I took my E2L Cree (I received it few days before) in my handy-bag (no trouble w/ security for the international or internal flights), a Propoly 4AA in my checked-in luggage and of course my LOD-CE in my pocket.
I staid 15 days in Madagascar and I had to use the E2L every night, some times just for few minutes and other times for one or two hours, as well inside as outside. The beam was great in both situations and the power was enough. The point is that I packed some spare batteries but I never used them : one set was enough for all the trip and at this time the light is still bright. A great and very usefull runtime in this kind of travel
It was just a nice experience I wanted to share with all of you.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with this light. I can echo your feelings on this light. It is bright ENOUGH and runs seemingly forever. It is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Same here! I played a lot with mine in the last two weeks. This included 1 week of vacations, using it every nights when camping and I'm still on the SureFire batteries that came with it and still as bright! It runs forever...

Is the sidespill bright enough for outdoor tasks?

Can anybody compare the E2L with the P3D CE on medium and high levels?

Very cool.

Isn't it nice when a new light meets and exceeds expectations?!

Always a good feeling when you can really use your lights in a situation where you really need them. It's very satisfying when a light meets or exceeds expectations in real world use. Thanks for sharing your story.

@ veleno: "Is the sidespill bright enough for outdoor tasks?" yes it was :p walking in the country to find the house of the in-law family or fixing a car which would'nt start was the situations I was and the E2L was perfect :twothumbs

Beamshot : E2L on left, P3D-CE on medium on right

Same w/ exposure -1

Please be indulgent with my photo talent ...

@Kelmo & Oddjob: You're right ... you just feel safe when you get the right tool in every situation, and this is what I felt during this trip

Good story. I love my E2L Cree as well. It is my EDC right now. I added a F04 diffuser for a bit of versatility. This was my first SF and probably will not be my last.

On spill: The KX2 is the most reflector like beam shape I have ever seen from an optic. It is very useful - great hotspot, decent spill, and no hard edges like you typically find with LED/reflector set ups. Typically, I dislike lights with optics - this one is a keeper.

More Surefire Cree E2L comments in this thread.

It's refreshing to have a flashlight with a decent beam which you can use for prolonged periods without worrying about the batteries dying or fussing with rechargeables.

I cannot compare with the P3D but I have the L2D. To me, the throw of the E2L is as bright as the L2D on Turbo, but the spill is slightly dimmer than L2D on medium. Still, it is bright enough for most close range uses and the hotspot is very large and much useful for long distance uses. I just love this light! :)

I like true story:twothumbs, thanks. Love my new E2L too.

For a single-level light, the E2L seems to have the best balance between runtime and output: 9 hours of regulation at 45 lumens. It's a great general purpose light, and I use mine often. I just wish it had a little more spill.

The E2L rocks. Itis so KISS and yet so overly sufficient in brightness with an abundance of runtime. I love it.

Altough my Z57 just crapped out so my lovely little E2L zill not work for me on vacation and the L1 and PD will get all the fun.

And yes, the beam is great. A perfect compromise. Very well done there. I was really positively shocked with this light.

in the website it stated 45lumens.
is it actually 45lumens?does it actually stated on the box?
is that LED 45lumens or 45 torch lumens?
nice looking light as usual.

Surefire is pretty good about listing the actual lumen figures. If anything, it seems they tend to underestimate the actual lumens their lights are getting out the front.
