Well I've been riding around all day long to find a good piece of copper to solder the MaxFlex to and make a thermal transfer to the MagD barrel possible. At the last shop I went to I finally found what I was looking for :) A piece of copper pipe of 50mm long and outside diameter 37.3mm. The inside diameter of the barrel is 34.2mm so I need to work a little on this pipe to make it fit. Tomorrow I have time to work on it, I think this will be sufficient to draw away 2W of heat from the MaxFlex (when operating at max output in my application).

Here's an image with the MaxFlex and a Luxeon star for size comparison :

This is the last part I needed to start working on my 7xCree R2 Mag modification :)

Cheers!

Hi Erasmus,

I've been using H22A heatsink; perfect fit inside M@g. Dremmel the lips if needed to flush inside the body.

I've been thinking about that as well, but how do you make the connection between the MaxFlex and the DHS? DHS is aluminum and it isn't possible to solder that material. The copper pipe is directly solderable (is that correct English?) to the thermal path of the MaxFlex, which increases the thermal transfer.

Oh, my soldering skill is pathetic LOL

So just thermal epoxy. What I like with DHS heatsink is that it fits really well inside M@g.

They fit very nice indeed, I love the DHS :) Can you show me a picture of your MaxFlex on a DHS?

Yeah , I was thinking just thermal epoxy to the H22A sink.

How about this? Use a Kui high temp socket (without the actual socket/post)
and epoxy the driver to the heatsik section on the front of the switch?

Slightly cheaper , probably a tider solution though.

It was my first mod :sssh: I cut the bottom half of DHS to make a thick ring, and AA'd a copper tab from MaxFlex2 to the flat side of the ring. It's not that pretty and sort of sealed in a M@g 2D; actually I can't be bothered to disassemble it and play with the messy silver compound (amateur).

I'm going to build 6 U2SWOH + 1 red SSC soon with MaxFlex2, Multi-Sink and DHS; waiting for parts from US  I'll take pictures.
