Any idea why the beam is square? Reminds me on my xpg 5 watt as it has a square beam, yet round optics. Looking into the lens you see a large white or yellowish squareish thing that is the lamp.

its square because the luxeon die is square. with the combination of an optic it magnifies the sqaure shape. practicaly all luxeon lights that use an optic have a square beam.

Reptilezs is correct. You'll see the same thing in most high dome luxeons that use a collimating optic.
