Hey All.

I'm a noob with a pair of Nitecore GD+ I purchased recently from UniqueTitanium. One is an EX10 and the other a NEX.

I was playing around with both and noticed a slight difference with the spot pattern when up close. I mean really close like around 6".

As you may observe the NEX on the right has a dark spot in the centre where as the EX10 on the left doesn't. I was wondering what the reason might be. At distance both GD+ seem

In low power or high power it seems noticeable. Anyone else notice this with their Nitecore GD+? Any chance it might be some sort of reflection or refraction from the crenelated bezel on the NEX?

Cheers,

Norman

It's a very common thing to see in most LED lights. It's because your hotspot is formed from the light coming off the reflector, which at a certain distance has not had a chance to converge yet.

Yeah, that's called the donut hole. I've got a couple lights that don't have it, and people seem to say that it means the reflector isn't "perfectly" designed.

I don't know why you need to shine the light directly at something 6" away, and why you would need a perfect beam at that distance.

I think it's more of a preference or bragging rights thing.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Yeah, it's not so much that it bothers me but just curious why one shines the way it does compared to the other.

AND I figured out why the NEX has a donut. The battery in my NEX is a bit weaker than the EX10 from usage. That's all. :ironic: I swapped the batteries between the two and then the EX10 was showing a donut. Neato!

Learned a new thing today. On to the next thing....

Cheers!
