I have a gen 3 (four flats) L1. When I twist the tailcap clockwise to turn the light on, I hear a slight scraping sound. Nothing bad at all. However, when I twist the tailcap counterclockwise to turn the light off, the sound is quite noticeable.

Any suggestions on what to do? Does the tailcap just need to break in? The light was bought, stored, and never used. I did notice some rough spots on the edge of the spring.

I have an A2 and also have a very rough tail cap. It seems to be with just one of the tail caps.

Call Surefire. They will send you another one for free.

Hmmm ... I'm unsure of that. The older L1 tailcap does not fit on either of my round body A2's. The A2 tailcap does thread onto the L1, but it's a loose fit. And the older L1 tailcap is shorter than the A2's.

Talked to SF technical service, and the guy said that the noise is the spring compressing and expanding and that it would go away over time.

Now, if I smooth out the rough spots on the spring, will I strip any sort of coating off the spring? Will it have any detrimental effects? How would you go about doing it?
