Hi all,

I'm looking for a lamping flashlight that can be scope mounted.
I would like it to be fairly small but offer a decent illumination range and preferably run off either 18650s or CR2s.

I would be fitting a red filter to this so how will the beam/ range be affected?
Would an aspheric lens improve the beam?

I'm looking at around $50 for the flashlight. Any suggestions on model etc would be greatly appreciated as would help answering my queries stated above.

Many thanks
Robert

An asphericla lens would give a narrower beam with little to no spill. White LEDs do not produce much red light, so if you want red, it might be best to buy a red LED light, or swap the LED for a red LED (just beware of the different voltages for the LEDs).

There are many cheaper aspherical lens and zoomie lights but I'm not sure about quality or how the lights will take recoil. Look up reviews for them to get the best one of the lot. If you need a dependable light, I'd suggest saving up for one.

A lot of the budget zoomies also zoom by sliding the lens rather than turning it. I'm guessing the recoil would cause quite an issue with that unless you could dampen the zoom movement by quite a lot with some o-rings or something.

Stick some JB-Weld in it once it's set. It'll take a lot of recoil to move it after that.
