Just wondering what is the normal current draw on a Leadlight 105? I've measured my unmodified 5mw at 290ma and was wondering if this is the standard current.

Yeah fine, there is a surface mounted pot on the driver board which adjusts the current from around 180ma > 320ma but varies a little between pointers.

At factory level, the Leadlights are adjusted to 5mw - I dare say you may get 15mw at max 320ma and without overdriving the circuit or diode.

Thanks for the info guys.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I really don't know how bright this 5mw is, but it is pretty bright. I'll leave this one alone since it doesn't heat up at all and should be good for continuous use. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can someone please explain (or link) how to check current draw? Search is not much help, but maybe need better key word(s). Thanks...

Oi Greg… can you see the laser beam in the dark with your stock 5mW?

Yes, in a darken room and outside at night. Hong Kong is pretty humid. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Steps for checking current on your laser:
1. Unscrew the tailcap on your laser.
2. Set your multimeter to measure current. Mine has a fused setting up to 200mah and a separate unfused setting for up to 10A, so make sure you select the right setting.
3. Stick the negative probe of the meter under the pocket clip of the laser.
4. Press and hold the positive probe of the meter on the positive pole of the battery, compressing the spring.
5. Press the button to activate the laser and read the meter for the current drawn. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

so when i put it on 10A and get a reading of 4.4 whats that come out to? 440mA? and just so ppl know i've done the resistor and pot mods.. (tho i used 1/4 watt resistors from radio shack) and have taken it apart a few times and tried re-setting the lenses and diode, but dont have a way to test the mW output..

Hmmm.. Mine at 10A setting reads 0.29 for (I assume) 290mah.. 4.4 at a 10A setting looks like it maybe 4.4A /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

yea, it was 2am and I was tired.. just tested again and got .43 on 10A... so you are right...430mA...
