I will buy a 5 watt LS with muti power levels (C batts) when someone makes one. Untill then I am stopping all light purchases as I see no reason for it. I already have a drawer full of unused lights. The only one`s I use often are the Photon 3, Trek 7, AAA Arc and 3 D Mag...in that order. The Photon 3 being used by far the most. I am no longer interested in half-way lights. I am a flashaholic, not a fool and need only the best at an affordable price (repeat 3 times a day or as often as needed).

Oh, come one, Ken! You can't say you're not going to buy a high dome 1W luxeon flashlight!
(hoping they come out)

Well, I feel the same way....besides the high dome 1 watt luxeon...I'm kind of holding off on buying anything. My madmax mods are keeping me content for now...

Ken, got anything you'd like to contribute to my collection? I could use the donation

JollyRoger...tell me more about your madmax mods...got any photos?

actually I'm doing about the same thing. if you have a lot of lights you dont use put them up in the trade area or you could even sell them on ebay. right now my main lights are the arc aaa and opalec. i have a ultrastinger which for my needs replaces all the incandesent lights I had. I'm going to try and stay with all regulated led lights from now on. I like buying flashlights but I'm hoping to move out soon and I have more important things to spend my money on. the next light i would even consider buying is the arc-ls. if it wasnt so dang expesnive.

Hey, ChrisM....photos? Well, I suppose I could post some. But somebody has to host them.

My madmax mod is essentially a modified minimag. I have a luxeon in there being driven by one of dat2zip's 1674 rev. 6. It gets almost 90% efficiency (okay, atleast mid to high 80% in real-world conditions) and is set to drive the luxeon at a whopping 550mA.

It keeps this level for a bit over an hour using 2AA nimh...at which point it will drop into "safety mode," at Vin of 1.7-1.8V...and output is around a low 50mA...still enough to get home by, etc.
I like this, since it's a "no brainer" indicator to change my batteries before they get ruined...

This is by far the brightest little sucker I've made (for the size) but it does heat up pretty quickly!

I have a tailcap switch on there (one of Mr. Bulk's RAM switches) and have retained the candle mode (just screw off the head and you have area light!).

If you want some pics, I could email them directly to you? Just let me know (send me an email).

I run a webserver that I can use to host some images...Let me know if you'd like me to do that...

Whoa...you kinda lost me. I'm a newbie to flashlight mods (anything other than swapping bulbs, and even then, am cautious). I don't even know what a "dat2zip 1674 rev. 6 is. I guess what I was wondering is if you sell your mods or kits with newbie-appropriate instructions

I'm still waiting for a little $$$ so I can buy my first bulk LED to TRY my first mod

Sorry about that, hehe..

My mod is pretty simple. You'll need the following:
1) A regulator from dat2zip (Wayne Y. right here on the CPF). It's based on the Maxim 1674 chip.
2) A minimag flashlight
3) A tailcap switch for the minimag (from Brightguy, etc.)
4) A soldering iron and solder.
5) Some thermal epoxy or grease, etc.
6) A couple hours of your time...

Wayne actually has some good instructions and pictures on his website.

He sells his converters for around $10 or $11 right now. I highly recommend them! They're excellent. (So small you won't believe your eyes...)

I recommend getting one just to tinker with. One of his versions (the rev. 5) is adjustable, so you can hook it up to a luxeon and just play with it (vary the Voltage out going to the luxeon).
