It seems to me to be pretty dim. I would estimate about 30 lumens or less. Seems like it could be better.

What do other think? I do not have a gladius - how do the strobes compare?

I was going to dedicate a level to the strobe, but now not so sure....

I tried both strobe and maximum at arm's length while walking around a little bit in a dark room. I didn't get disoriented with strobe or maximum. In my opinion, the maximum is worse because your retinas never get a break from the beam--it's like looking at the sun.

I have heard of tricks to use with a light and bad guy, but they involve chasing him on foot. For the big "showdown" I think just getting your brightest light in his eyes is a good way to go.

the disorienting strobe is for someone who is in the dark, so you need to get adapted to darkness then try it. You don't just walk up to someone in a well lit room and turn on the strobe and expect the person to crawl into a fetal position on the floor ya know....

I found it very effective, my five year old just turned and ran away.

Pulse the high beam with the strobe for real annoyance!

Yeah mine doesn't appear as bright. Annoying yes, bright, who knows...

I think that the strobe would make the bad guy more inclined to kill you rather than just rob you.

Remember a kick to the sack a knee to the face a stomp to the ankle and make your escape.:p

Hmmm - well I thought it was quite bright but then I was testing mine mostly in completely dark rooms. I did stand on the back porch and try it just after Sunset and at that time it didn't seem as bright. I think it would be hard comparing it to the Gladius because it has such a tight focused spot versus what is a pretty floody beam from the Novatac. So in a small to medium room the Novatac can put a lot of light out that will be bouncing off everything and it will likely seem very bright in strobe mode. I found the rate on the Novatac very disorienting, annoying and uncomfortable. The Fenix P2D CE strobe however does not bother me much at all yet seems quite bright as I think the on time or slower rate makes it seem bright.
I just tried the Novatac again in a well lit room and it seemed very bright when I turned it on. I did notice an almost immediate response in my eyes to look slightly away from the center spot where I pointed it about 5 feet away. At that point it didn't seem so bright but it felt like it was a reflex aversion response to avoid how uncomfortable the strobe's effect is.
