I have a question about the 120P (flat) style tail caps.

I recently bought one from lighthound to put on my 120T. Unlike my original 120T tailcap, the new one has a rubber sleeve around the tailcap spring. This sleeve is making it a lot more difficult to screw the tailcap onto the light. Is this normal? do I have a faulty cap? is the 120P (flat) cap not supposed to go on a 120T??

Thanks for your help.

That rubber sleeve is there to keep the battery from losing contact if you drop the light when it is on. It will be harder to screw on with the rubber baby buggy bumper in place........;)

It's normal. My 85T from lighthound has the same bumper on it. A little difficult but manageable. A bit of lube on the threads and o ring helped a bit by making things a little smoother.

yeah, i have everything lubed up fine....it is just a huge difference compared to the original T type tail cap that came with the light....without the rubber sleeve.

the sleeveless cap goes on easily and inuitively. the rubber sleeved one requires a lot of force and pressure.

Does the positive contact on the head of your light have a spring? If it does then I don't think it is designed for the tailcap with the rubber bumper and it may be harder to screw the light together. The extra pressure may not be good for it. I think you can remove the rubber. Hopefully someone who has messed a lot with this will respond.

You're correct. That rubber bumper puts a lot of excessive pressure on the threads and overtime will cause the threads to fail. I think Novatac realized this and that's why they went with a 2 spring approach instead of relying on high spring force.

Good point...I will check this later on. LH and others who are selling these things should specify what they are selling before we buy...

Makes perfect sense. My 8T doesn't have the positive contact spring and has the rubber bumper instead. That's why it doesn't seem too hard to screw the tailcap back in for me.
