Which would be my best option for crazy throw and which would be my best option for huge flood.
I'm thinking P7 in a smooth reflector and an MC-E M bin in a MOP.
Am I close?

Right now I have CREE R2 and I'm looking for a little more throw.

Hi
I just tried the two and you are right. You got a much brighter hotspot with the P7 in a smooth, considerably and amazingly the artifacts were not terrible. These are quite mirror like. There were a few rings @ twenty feet but a great hotspot and not as many rings as with an R2.

The MC-E is more floody and much smoother in the mop than the mirror finish. The Mbin is definitely bright and although cool white these M bins are not that nasty blue white more just brilliant white.

I am not sure that either will actually out throw an R2 pushed to 1.4 but the massive volume of light that goes with the other two makes them a definate upgrade.

Just let me know what you decide.

Thanks

Dave

Hrm... so many options and not enough money. I'm going to poke around and find some beamshots and get back to you. If anyone has some Cree R2 vs P7 throw shots they want to throw up that would be great!
What is this being driven at after the driver? 1.4A?

Hi Dave, thanks again for all the info and I just sent pp cc for 1 x neutral white P7 3-level dimming D26 module.

Looking forward to receiving it and seeing what it can do! :twothumbs

Re: Now a couple MC-E's /SSC P7 Drop in for any P60 style SF product (back in stock)

Hi

The R2 are being driven or should I say over driven @ 1.4 amps so I would think maybe around 300 lumen

The P7 are driven Direct drive so depending on the batts 2.8 to 3 amps somewhere in there.

I am going to snooze a couple of hours and will try to show some beam shots between the two a little later.

Well look here, the new reflectors which I said were much nicer also have allowed me to focus MC-E. Before no matter what I did it had a big hole in it.
Well all of you that bought the P7 and were pleased with how there was no doughnut hole well here we go again.

Not bad for a drop in.

The first two are a bonus for you all warm white fanatics, these are JE6 warm white MC-E.

I have two of these right now, I am selling them for $65 this time just like the P7

Thanks

Dave

Oh that right I need to tell you all that they are parallel wired, they are using the same direct drive, 5level board as above. This board is just right for these two emitters because it works with, 18650, 18500, 16340, or it even worked with two cr123, amazed me.

I was using one of AW IMR 18500 and that is what the picture was taken with.

I'm not sure whether to go p7 or MC-E. It's for an M2 that currently has a 1.3 R2 in it:
* Would you say the P7 throws farther but the MC-E has more flood/spill?
* Any idea as to the total lumen output of the MC-E M-bin or the P7
* Do you have any 2x2 wiring versions? My SF M2 will only take 16x or 17x batteries. A single 16340 would not give me much run time...
* If I went with the P7, would I likely loose much throw ovr the R2?
* Is the P7 smooth enough to not need an OP reflector?

Ok lets see where to start. I would guess a P7 throws a bit farther than a MC-E but alot depends on the bin. The newer Mbins brings the MC-E very close in throw.

Total lumen output I really could not tell you, I can quote figures that all know but that is it. They use a small reflector so it will not be like a mag but still very bright.

By 16x or 17x I take it to mean 18650 & 17670 or so. Either of these will run this fine. Two cr123 also do great. I can wire it 2s2p but it will take at least 6.4 to 7.2 volts to work since you add voltage and reduce current. One batt. will not function on 2s2p 2 full power.

when it comes to losing throw, this is hard to say, yes the R2 may throw a bit farther but will there be enough light to see what you need to. That is where the P7 & MC-E come into play what they don't have in throw they more than make up in volume. I think you would be pleased and have a hard time telling the difference as far as throw goes, now volume you can tell (300lumen VS 800 lumen)

Here are some wall shots @ about 9 or 10 feet. It was not night but still visible.

Re: Now a couple MC-E's /SSC P7 Drop in for any P60 style SF product

Do you have a drop in that will work in a SureFire G3 (3XCR123)? Thanks.

Hi KingGlamis

I am sorry I missed answering you the other day.

I can wire an MC-E 2s2p and you would be able to use it. It would have to be a one level board since the dimming electronics don't like more than about 7 volts and you will really need around 8 volts and you will be at 9 with 3 primaries

I think I'm going to go with a Warm White MC-E with a single mode driver in a smooth reflector. Lets start with a nice tactical throw monster. I'm looking for maximum throw, rings and weird shapes are fine. I won't be white wall hunting.
Please PM me a price and PP address. 😎

Excellent Dave, If you were to build me a P7 drop in for my M2 optimized to run on 2 IMR 16340s (2s2p - yes?), would that be able to take 5 levels? Would the price still be $65?

Thanks!

Re: Now a couple MC-E's /SSC P7 Drop in for any P60 style SF product (back in stock)

Hi Mark

I pm'd you, I don't think I explained myself very good so I tried again but on P7 I don't have a choice as to how they are wired.

Thanks

Dave
