hey im new to the forums and modding lights, pretty much looking to do the ROP mod and was wondering would it be better to run 18AA in the adapters or just run 6 10,000 mah d cell batteries

Hello snowcruizer713,

6 x NIMH D cells will pack more stored energy than 18AA cells in 6S3P configuration. (the AA setup would be like having 6-7.5AH Ds instead of 10AH).

Besides, I don't make a production 18AA adapter wired that way. The ones in the sales thread are wired in series for ~21.6V operation. It would be a custom order for a 6S3P adapter.

Eric,

can you build a battery adapter that will hold 6 AAA, 2 X three in series, paralleled to replace 2 C cells in series.

I modifying a 2 C cell dive light and need 4.5 vdc for the emitter.

I am unable to send PM, so if its not too much trouble,

been looking at this thread. which cells would i have to use to run the mn21 in the m6? and is there any risk of premature bulb failure? thanks

Hello hron61,

The best way to run the MN21 on rechargeable cells will be available hopefully in 3-6 weeks and you can see the feeler thread for the product HERE.

With the PhD-M6, you can regulate a constant output to the MN21 at a proper drive level for over 20 minutes.

The 2x18650 adapter can be used with LiMn (IMR) or unprotected LiCo ("regular" li-ion) cells (must be 2.5AH or better rated to 5A continuous discharge) to run the MN21. Bulb life on the IMRs is generally going to be pretty short depending on which specific IMRs are used, bulb life on unprotected LiCo cells would be a little better, and the runtime would be a little longer.. Using unprotected LiCo cells is something you should only do if you have a good understanding of the proper use and care of these cells. A quality charger is a must.

Hi flex76italy,

The electrical contacts are completely different, and the plastic diameter is too large, it will not fit, sorry 🙁

Eric

are you saying that the +/- contacts on your 2x18650 adapter won't connect to a stock mag?

i'm assuming if the mag is bored and switch is slightly modified, this would work?

Hello irv_usc,

The M6 contacts on both ends are basically smaller diameter protruding springs.

The Mags have a large diameter spring on the tailcap and a small diameter spring on the switch.

The M6 adapters I make *might* make contact with the switch assembly, won't make contact with the tailcap spring, and would require that the body be bored to ~1.4", with slots for the cells dual-bored a little further even.

When the the PhD-M6 project slows down, I will be picking another project to work on. I'm leaning in the direction of 2x18650 for cut-down, re-threaded, bored and dual bored hosts. We'll see..

Eric
