I found this forum while searching for a custom (outboard) battery holder for my new digital camera. While it's not quite a flashlight, it does flash and I think the type of adapter you produce would fit this application perfectly. How long (should you choose to accept this mission) would it take to make

Welcome to CPF!

The adapter designs that I keep materials and tooling on hand for are all based on smaller cell sizes. I think your best bet in that case would actually be a welded and shrink-wrapped pack. Something like this:

Then just pick up a good hobby style pack charger that could charge that thing at a decent rate. (ideally, a few amps or better for reasonable charge times with delta V end-of-charge detection, however, a ~1.4A rate for ~16 hours would also work fine).

It would be wise to do some searching around and try to find a pack similar to what I have linked to, but using name brand cells like Sanyo would be preferable.

You might also consider using a li-ion pack with cells in parallel. It would be half the weight, smaller footprint, almost identical operating voltage, with less cell maintenance.
