Im looking to build a lighting set-up for my dirtbike, I want to attempt a build because I think it will be fun to try and make something work. My bike does not have battery and I would need to get the stator kit, unless I could get a battery powered set-up. Of course the requirments might make batteries impossible. Im looking for the brightest setup possible mainly to allow a "daytime" pace out in the california desert and baja. Ive read allot of threads here about various set-ups. Im mainly looking for type of LED's to run to get the most light possible(and throw), while considering the power demands. If a battery system would work id be looking for 3 hours or so. Thanks

Edit: After a little research I found a stator kit that says 100w off idle, around 60w at idle. So what setup could i make to get some crazy brightness and throw. The reason for max brightness is not wanting to "out run" the lights at higher speeds. Thanks.

Edit: How about these? With lenses should they throw good? http://www.dealextreme.com/p/xmlawt-1000-lumen-led-emitter-white-light-bulb-3-0-3-5v-51989
I was thinking of making two 5" to 8" wide housings, and depending on lenses or reflectors the height of course and depth shouldnt be a problem. The top light would be the narrow beam from all LED's installed, and the bottom would be the flood, or maybe split the difference. Again im looking at around 100w to 70w coming from the stator.

What kind of speeds are you talking about, and how much side spread do you need?

Nearly impossible to build a vehicle-based lighting system that will allow daytime visibility, even with unlimited power available.

Probably about 40 to 50 mph, and the daytime light was a exaggeration, just as bright as possible. As for the side spread 1 to 2 feet. The most imporatant goal is to be able to ride at those speeds and have enough illumination to read the terrain. I looked at some HID but for my bike a powerful enough set-up will exceed the wattage capability of aftermarket stators.

Although a big bright LED will help to throw the light out there, a lot of what you will need to consider is the optics. The typical lensing that most people use is not going to throw the light as far as an actual reflector. I think companys like Cree and Lumileds have off the shelf reflectors you can buy.

most the led lighting for the bikes are not far lighting 100 ft or so the ones i would say are the cube leds spot on one and euro on other low amp draw with good lighting

How far ahead do you actually want to see? 100 ft at 50mi/h is only 1.36s. 3s? At 50 mi/h that's 220 feet. 5s? 365 feet.

200ft's probably pretty doable with 100W.
