I've been reading all the raves for Surefire lights for several weeks now, but I've finally tried one out.

I got my new 6P Defender this afternoon. What a great light! It's just now getting totally dark, but I took it out to the carport, which is a bit darker, and tried it up against a brand new stock Mag 3D. The comparison is astounding, especially considering the size difference.

As if that wasn't enough, I popped out the P60 lamp, and popped in my brand new Malkoff M60, which also arrived this afternoon. Night and DAY!!

Now I can see why y'all get so crazy about your lights. I think I'm gonna love this 6PD. Thanks for steering me into this insanity.

Good to hear. I have been wondering about what bulb/lamp I could drop into my 6P to make it super bright.
Is the defender the one with the strike bezel?

Congratulations on your new light and Drop-in!

Next thing you know, the Malkoffdevices won't seem bright enough and you start building something like this.

Be careful, it's an addictive hobby.

I just bought a PTS Defender and some upgrade tweaks for my SF C2.

And I'm seriously thinking about rounding out with a SF E1L, blue lens filter.

Of course, it's all work related. I swear. :candle: :D

Speaking of expensive hobbies...

I don't need a Malkoff dropin.

I don't need a Malkoff dropin.

I don't...damn.:ohgeez:

Congratulations on a great light and drop in! You really have a first rate light there.

We'll see just how long you're grateful, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into....... or... do you?

RUN!, Run Away.....Run far, far away........:poof:

Oh, welcome to the Hotel California, eh, I mean CPF. Enjoy the ride.

Donn, There are a lot of different ways to change the setup on this light. The 6PD was my 2nd Surefire and like you I was very pleased with this light. One suggestion that I liked (not a lot of money) is to get yourself a HO-9 from Lumens Factory and two AW RCR123's from Lighthound and you will have a nice bright free lumen light. Enjoy!!
By the way, you are correct there are a lot of smart, nice and helpful folks here at CPF. They turned me on to the above setup for this light..:welcome:

Now I'm confused. I was under the impression the only batteries I could use are CR123 primaries or 17670 Li-ion's. I have 2 x 17670's and a charger enroute from AW.

According to Lumens Factory's site, the HO-9 is compatible with the P9, but it doesn't mention the P6. What's the bulb life of the HO-9? Will it work with 17670's in my 6PD?

PS..thanks for all the welcomes and dire warnings. I'm also looking for a way to upgrade a couple of PR flange type incans to LED. One is a 4xC IkeLite dive light, and the other is a 4xD Dorcy area light. I tried the Terralux TLE-1F, but it didn't work. It also didn't work in a Mag 3D, so it may be a defective unit.

Okay, First read this http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=161536 then the HO-9 is a 9volt bulb, the two batts in the above thread are 4.2 volts each off the charger. 8.4 total. This will power the 9 volt bulb. Like I said read Modocod (spelling might be wrong,) but his compatility chart is great. Also, you can use the 17670 in that light, I do , but that batt is only 4.2 off the charger and will not by itself power the HO9 but it will power a led or a LF EO-4. Like I said there are alot of configurations that can be used with that light. Also, might I suggest go to Lumensfactory.com and check out their bulbs for the light.

Nite-ize makes a .5w PR LED that is reletively dim for about $8 at Wal-Mart. I've also seen a 1w PR LED at Sears for about $15, most likely made by Dorcy.

Not the brightest items, depends upon your needs.
