This maglight is probably 15 to 20 years old. I'm wondering if anyone has removed the lamp and switch assembly from one of these. Switch itself has no allen wrench fitting and no retainer ring is visible on the lamp housing. Are these press fit into the body?

I lied. I see now that there is a rather odd spring clip laying atop the lamp housing. Not having any success removing it however.

Any help much appreciated.

Do you realize that the allen screw is clear down at the bottom of the hole in the switch? The correct size wrench is 5/64" (or 2mm).

I have both the old style Mag (no letter in the serial number) and the newer style (serial number starts with C or D). Both use the allen screw down inside the switch. There are some other differences in the switch and the old style uses a screw in retaining ring instead of the snap in. But both old and new have the screw for the ground connection. Once you loosen it up, you should be able to drop the switch out the bottom of the light. If it's stuck in place a little, I leave the wrench in the switch hole and use it as a lever to rock the switch side-to-side to break it loose.

The old style post also has no cup in the bottom of the socket; the (+) bulb terminal rides directly on the spring. So that's a new style Mag, and as DonShock mentioned, you needn't mess with the spring clip at all.

The allen setscrew is way on the other side of the body so the wrench must reach quite a distance through the hole in the switch.

Don and bfg,
Thanks very much. I assumed mine had to be the older version as I bought them 20 or so years ago. However, based upon your description, this is a newer model. A 5/64 allen of sufficient length did indeed find the screw land the assembly dropped out the back of the light. Sure are a lot of parts in the switch:eek: No harm, the switch on the second mag I opened held together.
I appreciate your help!
Regards
