Ok, I've been looking at the forum for a while trying to decide between a few lights. I want a good light for tactical use. I am entering a police academy in the fall and they require I purchase my own belt light and light holster.

I like that the Olight will take 18650 batteries, I like the Surefire's track record, and the UI of the Quark. Overall, how do these lights compare in build quality and durability?

I'm leaning to the Olight because the I like the idea of the multiple modes, has a UI that seems thought out, it will run on rechargeable batteries, and is in my price range.

My second thought is the quark because I just really like the UI. The head tight for max and head loose for a medium output.

Thanks for all your help!

I own the Olight and Quark and recommend the Olight for LE work. More tactically oriented than the Quark. Interface is great. Memory of last level used when you turn the light on and easy adjust/strobe access using the side button.

Only possible issue is that side button might be hard to feel with gloves on. It can be overcome by training to always position the side button in the same place, using the pocket clip to orient the light in your hand.

Quark 123^2 "X" Tactical or the Jetbeam BC25 (simple 2 mode high and low) be prepared to be envied when other guys show up with incan Mag-lites.

Surefires are marketed at cops and the military and can take a beating (the other 2 should take a pretty good beating also but not like Surefires) but there UI's are dumb IMO. You either get 1 mode or a totally non tactical 2 mode but you could look at the L2X Lumamax it has 2 modes and a cool UI.

That's what I was thinking about the quark UI. If tight was turbo, I could easily verify before turning the light on. I'm nervous about their build quality after reading some threads here, and they don't sell the 18650 bodies anymore. :banghead: I've also read that Olight and 4sevens have the same leadership. That has me concerned about Olight's quality as well.

What is the consensus on quality is Olight better than 47's? How about Jet Beam? So many questions! Wish I could play with them to decide what one I like best. I guess I'll continue to live vicariously through you. Thanks for the help.

4sevens reliability is good its just there fit and finish (anno, machining ect.) isn't as good as some larger companies like Jetbeam, Sunwayman and Fenix.

And 18650 bodies go for a ton on the MP you could run 17670's thou, and Olight builds 4sevens aluminum parts to 4sevens specs, there different companies.

Jet beam is better built than 4sevens? Its hard to tell quality over the net. Just trying to gather opinions?

There machining is a little smother and there anno is a little nicer and more uniform on average, that doesn't make them better.

Thanks, I'll probably think about it more. I'll research my purchases till I'm sure of what I want. I have to say I'm not sure yet. I want the light to last and function in the role I'll be in.
