Omg snl 50 years

SNL went 'stupid' in the early 20teens. I haven't watched it since the 90s mostly because they weren't funny (subjectively).
I watched them when they first came out and loved all the originals and the up-and-coming comics thru' the 80s and early 90s. In living color was another good skit show.

TBH, I really don't care about most ppl's 'leanings' one way or the other. Fault can be found anywhere where there's a human. But as a performer of any type, once you bring those 'leanings' into your art, you've set your course.

If you're a comic, be funny to as many as you can.
If you're an actor, convice (lie to) as many ppl as you can.
Musician? Dancer? Artist? etc.

Same.

You can make fun of me. Just be funny doing it. I'll laugh with you and make fun of you.

The Weekend Update and Point Counterpoint skits were great. The banter between Jane Curtin and Dan Aykroyd are classic.
"Jane, you ignorant slut"

Why alienate half your audience? Stupid is as stupid does.

Tom Hanks should know that.
Did you see the original skit from 2016? That one was funny and extremely popular.

The rehashed skit from a couple days ago was just a cheap and failed attempt to capitalize on an old hit."Black Jeopardy" was pretty good for it's time. I wish they could have just left it alone, but SNL loves to beat a good thing to death. Revisiting it now was just stupid, awkward, and unfunny. No one laughed, and the MAGA world is having a meltdown over it.

The original skit had a very interesting backstory. It was written by a white writer for the old Dave Chappelle show. He appeared on the skit "I Know Black People."

Here's a video essay from a few years ago. Covers the skit's history, including a part where he talks about the original MAGA Tom Hanks Character from 2016. Worth a watch.

The Tom Hanks monologue on all of the characters over the years who didn't age well.... was hilarious! Concluding with that one Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor scene where Chevy simply says the N-word in full. No bleeps. And, the way that sketch was written was also genuinely funny.

@Monocrom YES! I just saw that again the other day and was rollin' - I had forgotten about RP being on the show. THAT's how you make fun of racism. You don't get butt-hurt over it, you blow it up to ridiculous levels of cartoonish-ness.

Okay, maybe don't start a driving test THAT close to a cliff in front of the car. I feel like the driving instructor dropped the ball on that one.

Comedy is subjective what I find funny you may not and vice versa .my sense of humor has changed since my youth .used to love Jim Carey now he bothers me
