I saw those headlamps on clearance for about $6.50 a few days ago as noted in this ongoing thread

Yes, that's the heads-up thread which made me go to Target.
I have 3 local stores - first 2 did not have any Energizer LED Head Beams
(even though I could have sworn they had plenty a week or two before).
The third had them but at $9.08 - as my price tag shows -
I am somewhat suspicious that the price of $6.50 may be wrong, as the previous item mentioned by the poster was also $6.50.
The Dorcy 1w 3xAAA was not at the third - but present at the other 2 Targets - they both scanned at $17.48.
I did see a single Dorcy 1AAA in gold (and I thought all the ones at Target were silver) old parallel ribbed rubber style at $4.88 -
was kind of tempted for about 60 secs - but that's not really such a great price since WalMart has them everyday at $5.94 and in all colors.
I'd be interested if anyone has managed to pick up the Energizer LED Head Beam at any other price than the $9.08 clearance, or regular $12.99 from Target.

Now, the PT Yukon HL was brighter and had better throw, but it did not dwarf the good ol energizer head lamp. My friend was very impressed with the energizer head lamp.
I too was concerned about the wierd side spill the energizer head lamp gave out, but in the mountains it was almost non-existant.

Good summary.
I was impressed enugh with the Energizer LED Head Beam that I bought this my second one.
I like the ability to have red and white.
The strange side-spill is actually very useful indoors and I am not bothered by the funky pattern - because being a headlamp the side-spill is really more in the peripheral vision. This is hard to explain - but to me the whole point of a headlamp is that hotspot follows where one is looking - almost a deliberate "tunnel vision" so the side-spill tends to be peripheral vision despite the fact I know I can move my eye-balls.
Another point that I've been trying to make for a long-long time is that brighter is not always better.
Often it's the right amount of light for the purpose that's "better" - of course that can vary for circumstance to circumstance and from person to person. I like this Energizer LED Head Beam's white because it gives just about the right amount of light so that my eyes still can see the stuff in the unlit areas outdoors - ie: it's not too bright to cause my pupils to close so that the unlit dark areas can no longer be easily viewed.
Now this may seem inconsistent since I found the Dorcy 1AAA just about right too (please see:
Dorcy 1AAA Outdoors ) - and the Dorcy 1AAA is not quite as bright - so am I just praising everything and making up real-life conditions to suit the product?.....
well, maybe, but think on this the LED Head Beam sit on the forehead so it is a few feet further away from the ground in front of us when walking - whereas the Dorcy 1AAA is normally held at about hip-height - so it is quite a bit closer to the ground to be illuminated. Even so the LED Head Beam is still noticably brighter - but not so bright as to dazzle my eyes -
PLUS I think that the (relatively for white LEDs) somewhat warmer yellow/brown'ish tint helps reduce the dazzle and suits my eyes better.
Anyway, think what you want - I really like this Energizer LED Head Beam despite the fact they make NO claims for water resistance - which may be very important for some.
