LFs spec sheet shows the same bulb size for both 9v and 12v.
SR-9L 320lu [email protected] ~60min run time.
SR-12 320lu [email protected] ~60min run time.

Im new to this but would figure with the same bulb 4x123A@12v over 3x123A@9v would get you either more lumens or more run time. What do I not know yet?

you'd probably get 1 millisecond of blazing bright light before the bulb goes :poof: as you are overdriving it way way way beyond spec. If the bulb says 9v, that is its rating, any cell configuration more than 9v is overdriving the bulb.

I'm not an incand expert or even amateur by anyone's standards but i do know that you cannot overdrive the bulbs by too much. I've done 9xAA NiMH in 3D configuration for a total of 10.8v in my 3D mag and used a 6D bulb so that was like maybe 1.8v overspec but that was it.

You're not making a straight comparison. Infact the first figures you cite do not even reference primary cells.
SR-9L 320lu 7.4v <- this 7.4v is 3.7v*2, two rechargable batteries, 16340's, not cr123's as you posted in your question.

I didn't find the other lamp, the sr-12, so no firm conclusion.

The lamps run primary or rechargable. Different properties and capacities of each in differing situations.

It's fantastic.
Then, you can re-post an explanation for us.

Don't know if its proper here to hot link. Its on lumensfactory dot com.
Click specs on left bar. Then D36 series; on one page it shows both 9v and 12v.
Thanks

PS: thanks for the link...sure thats what I neew to know.

The SR-9L is rated for either 3 x CR123A or 2 x Li-ion cells and the SR-12 is made for 4 x CR123A only.

The voltage rating you are talking about is specific to that bulb and is already being driven hard. I would not hit these lamps with anything other than specified voltage/cells combination.

SR-9L 3x123 320lu ~60min

SR-12 4x123 320lu ~60min

Why is there no gain in lumens or time with the extra 123batt?

Thanks to all. I now see the SR-9L figures are for Li-ion. I may need to back up and start off with some plastic 6v lunchbox lanterns.
