I own an arc ls first run, arc aaa, cmg sonic and come others....

I am thinking of getting either an opalec or a sandwich shop item for a minimag.

May seem like a goofy question, but is the madmax brighter than the Opalec? How does the madmax compare to the first run Arc LS?

Thanks,
Bob

I don't have an Arc LS but I do have an Opalec and a Madmax. The Madmax is considerably brighter than the Opalec is. It throws further and has a good flood as well. I really like mine. Using some 2000 NIMHs I get about 2:45 of good light out of mine before I need to recharge the batteries. At that 2:45 runtime point though it's still producing more light than an Opalec. I've never done a test to see how long I can run it before it drops to the Opalec level. The Opalec is a night light though too and very useful. John

I have a Madmax Lite Lux3T with a gadget_lover two-stage kroll that I have compared to two Opalecs. The MM-Lite has comparable overall light output on low (10 ohm resistor), with better throw. The MM-Lite on "high" (normal) just dominates the Opalecs.

The Opalec runtime is its biggest advantage, if you don't need the extra brightness.

The Opelec not being very bright also has a long run time. About 10 hours before it drops out of regulation. After it drops out of regulation it still has several hours of useable light. To a hiker who is walking long distances in the dark would love the Opelec. Light output to see where you are walking is more than adequate. Doesn't have much throw though. Quite floody.
I guess it depends what your looking for in a light. They each have their place.

That is the problem, I am simply collecting them and very rarely use them....mostly I just fnd them ineteresting....

Thanks,
Bob

Well then, that's an easy call. Buy one of each. Hell buy several of each. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Two words:

"expensive hobby"

Thanks again,
Bob

BTW I think I will start with a minimag, Kroll switch and the opalec....due to limitation of cash flow.
