As many of you know I was in IRAQ and now Im back at Nellis AFB. I wanted to share a newspaper article done on our operations. This article will give you more insight to what we were/are doing over there. These are the people you are supporting.

Hello Bryan,

Excellent article.

I knew the Predator was important to our efforts, but and no idea just how important.

I also did not realize they were doing the hand of to the people at Nellis AFB.

Tom

Hello all: I'm back to say a quick hello and decided to stop on by for a quick peek-a-boo at the forum.

I read the recent threads and I just about lost my breath when I saw what the flag raffle was up to. I am completely astonished by the flag raffle posted for the "Operation Enlightenment" proceeds...YOU GUYS and GALS AMAZE ME!

I told all the others guys what the current standing were for the raffle... They are all excited to see who gets the flag and certificate. (We are eagerly waiting!)

Just to let you all know, the flashlights are doing great and so are we. Within the past week or so, we've done some really great, history making things out here. Unfortunatelly I can not go into any details, but according to the newspaper article "Greengoose" had attached, you can see who you all are cheering and supporting out here!

Recently the base had suffered several attacks where we maintained some light discipline. During this evolution, we used our flashlights to perform maintenance and various types of work. We have now become more knowledgeable as to the various types of lights that are available out there and which ones are considered the brighter of the bunch. (I personally prefer my Pelican M6-LED over all others!) [Gracias K.F. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif]

Although the Pelican M6 is refered to as the "Big Daddy" out here, it's useability is limited to the amount of batteries you can carry in your pockets. But I can testify a simple fact...this light is very durable and takes a beating! I accidentally dropped it off of our hangar (30-40 ft drop) and it smacked about every brick on its way down. An airman picked it up, turned it on and (mockingly) yelled to me, "Hey it still works! If you want it back, come and take it from me!"

Making a long story short, this gung-ho Airman was willing to keep it (regardless of the scratches), but happily handed it back to me when traded for his newfound respect for black eyes! (((J/K!))) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

Another favorite out here is the "BIG-LITTLE" Infinity Ultra. These little suckers last forever! Great to hang around the neck when doing the littlest of tasks. This light emits a soft white or red glow, bright enough to light your pathway and subtle enough to maintain "limited" light discipline... A popular one among the crowd as well!

Well all...good to stop on by and see y'all doing great. Gotta go and get back to working. Take care and see you in a few days! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Righteeeoooo BuddyTX! I will notify you of who gets it and have them pose for a quick photo or two. Maybe I'll do an e-mail video...We'll see.

Thank you BuddyTx! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

From the story: "The next generation Predators, Ihde said, will be the MQ-9s. They will have larger engines, more weapons, and be able to fly twice as high at twice the speed."

Hopefully that means that future missions can be fully executed without sending ANYONE to the sandbox.

But remember folks, you did not learn about this here.

Hi - Do you guys have access to 18650 cells (ok, I will use the word batteries) and chargers in Iraq? They are a recharge type, which might be useful for some applications.

How about general electricity power for recharging the cells ? If not, I guess that is the interest in 123 based lights ?

Good Luck - HarryN

This is all such great news. I am glad you like the Infinity Ultras over there because you got enough more coming to give every newbie one of them. The changeover is now going on with CMG and Gerber. There will shortly be a BLACK Infinity Ultra. I will send some as soon as I see them here. Please continue to stay safe. You are all STILL in our prayers. We want you ALL home safely.

Unfortunately the same flaw appears with this as it does with traditional airpower. Unless you just want to wipe out every living soul in that area, reduce it to ashes literally, you need to put people there to take and hold that ground. You need the Infantryman, the MP, etc., to clear out the bad guys hiding in school buildings, down in holes, whatever. People, including those who should have known better, thought that air power could do it all, just look at the success it had in Kosovo. Except, after they stopped Milosovic's troops, someone had to be on the ground stopping small bands of insurgents sneaking in. Predators and their replacements might be great for surveilling, and taking out a car or building, but to just take out one or two people in a building populated with non combatents, it's not so good.
You also need to have someone there to control it, and maintain it. It would reduce any casualties from pilots getting shot down, or crashing though.
They are great at what they do, but they do have limits so we will always need "boots on the ground."

Well everyone: here is a (security cleared) edited photo from "Operation Enlightenment" Enjoy.

Very nice! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I hate to be the one to point out a spelling error, but ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Stainless,
That is one of the nicest Predator photos Ive ever seen done. And Ive seen MANY in my 6+ years on the program.
My wife want to know if she can display it on her web site? With your permission of course. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

GreenGoose:
The base photo was sent to me by Nick - I simply added to it. I am HONORED that your wife is interested in putting it up on her site. Permission is granted.

I also have two other variations or the same photo - PM me an email address, and I will glady send all three versions.
Thanks again for the compliment!

Hello all, just checking in again. "Tipping my hat to everyone."

We received the box of goodies y'all had sent out here. I would like to say thank you for your generosity once again. I had handed them all out to some of the guys and to some of the new rotations coming in. They are all happy to receive these gifts and to learn about the history of "Operation Enlightenment". It was my pleasure to support this mission "O.E." on behalf of all you guys and gals out there. Thank you for the opportunity and support from home station U.S.A.!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Currently on base, everyone is getting situated with their lodging, personnel paperwork and work assignments, but once the e-mail is working for these guys, I am sure Kevin Falkner will have MANY thank you letters to relay to you all.

Anyways, gotta git!

P.S. Stainless..."Great job on the photo man, everyone loves it out here!"

Later,
Nick
