As you can read from my other post I am looking for a light that can be used hands free. I was hoping to get something more than just a headlamp. It seems something like the Versabrite could stand on it's own or be clipped to clothing and angled in the direction you want.

I searched through CPF and found some (very few) opinions that were not in favor of the light.

So... Any other lights that could be used hands free, but not just as a headlamp, and is somewhere around a Rage in brightness? Most of the work I'll be doing with this light will only be as far as my hands can reach.

Another reason I was going to get a Versabrite II is I'm already about to place an order from Eppes Corner for a few Pelican cases for work. So I figured I'd pick one up. Any reasons not to? Better alternatives?

Versabrite II is a really good wide angle light. the beam is very solid and its built really well. the only drawback is battery life, only about 3 hours. it stays fairly bright until about that time but dies off quickly after that. i personally like the original versabrite better because of the longer runtime but its only a focused beam. hope this helps.

Thanks Papasan and Tygger. Does anyone have a pic of a Syclone and a Versabrite II next to each other? And I know I'm getting picky here, but could you include an E2 or Minimag for size reference. Actually a hand in the shot would work also.

Hi Papasan, I have just ordered a Syclone for experiment. I checked with Streamlight and was told that the amber LED could be replaced with white one. Besides, I'll see if any high wattage bi-pin lamp fit Syclone and make its beam better, may be Surge lamp? I haven't received the Syclone yet and have no idea if it really fits. Did you try to replace its original black dot lamp?

Did you try putting some WriteRight over the lens ? It usually results in a huge improvement.
