I want to use a 3 watt star for my next mod, and I believe I will need a couple of optics. I want the tightest beam I can get. Which optic do you guys recommend? Or should I use the modded pelican reflector?
Also if I use a 5 watt luxeon which/what do you recommend?

If you use an optic, you will want the Low Profile Fraen.

If you are using 5W, pretty much no optic is suitable. Use a Pelican reflector. My 5W X3T PR Mclux has pretty good throw for a 5W.

The Pelican reflector works great for LuxIII's also. It will be tighter than the 5W.

Like jtice said, go with either the Fraen LP or the Pelican reflector for the 3w or 1w HD parts.

The Frean will give you a good bright narrow flood beam, with all the light in the large hotspot and almost zero sidespill (you really have to see this to understand what I mean), while the Pelican will give a really tight and bright hotspot (probably 1/4 or less the size of the Fraen beam), with good spill light also.

The Fraen LP is also considerably smaller in size than the Pelican reflector. IMHO, the Fraen is by far the best optic for it's size.

Another option is the 30mm optic, but I still like the Frean LP better. For the 5w, a reflector is the best choice.
