Here it is, my first true 5W torch.
The Oracle 4C on the far left.
This baby throws longer than any LS light I have made to date, and it is extremely bright!!
Here is a comparison shot with some of my other lights for scale.

Left to right:
Oracle 5W, Craftsman 3D Ion Flux 2, BB500 Minimag, SF E2e.

I had to use 6 1/2 C cells and one dummy C cell to get the 7.2 volts I needed for the 5W using only one .5 OHM resistor in series. I think the 6 1/2 cell format in a 3cell light are going to be my choice of battery layouts for a while. The 1/2 C cells are Ni-Cad and are 1400mah each giving me about 1 hour and 30 min of very bright light and slowly diminishing after that.

The 1/2 C cells recharge nicely in my Rayovac PS3 with a spacer.
I'm definitely going to build my next 5W lights in a couple of Craftsman 3D's and use 1/2 D Mimhs.

I got lucky and the phosphor pattern in the reflector (yellow ring) came out sweet and the Strontium Aluminate ring as well. (green ring)

I used the dusting method again for applying the glow powder.

Lower left is the custom heatsinking washers and copper top tower.
The whole unit is Artic Silver epoxyed together while the tower mount for the LS has thermal compound filled inside along with the .5 OHM resistor.
I also used Artic Silver premium compound in the threads, this passes good heat transfer into the reflector head assy.
The giant tab you see in the reflector WAS the Anode poking up with a solder blob. (now removed after I saw this pic

And lastly, the end cap (lower right) showing the Oracle logo.

Here are the beam shots at 16 feet comparing my BB700x3 LS Ion Flux 2 on the left and the Oracle on the right.
The Oracle single 5W is more intense and bright in the hot spot than the 3 1watters.

Nice spot at 16 feet!

The beam is also very white and uniform almost no blue at all and absolutely no green.

Here is the spot drowning out my light rope.

Lastly, This shot shows the wonderful overall beam pattern this beauty casts. I am very pleased with the way this light worked out

well, off to work on the 6 1/2 D cells lights... I would love to do a 3x5W version. hmmmm

5 watters... YUM!

I believe if you put this up for sale, there are lots who will queue up to get it.

Nice!

Have you compared your Oracle to another other 5 Watters?

You can't compare them to 1 Watt LS. It's just not fair.

Where'd you get the donor 'Oracle' light?

I've never heard them mentioned before, but that light looks SWEEEEEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!

And what an awesome mod! Although I would almost certainly just overdrive a 3.6v bulb with 4 Cs....

Nevermind. I found them at NDS Products in Pasadena TX (Not more than 6 miles from where I sit!).

I emailed them and now have my fingers crossed that they have a walk in store or at least City Sales.

I get in a LOT less trouble if I pay cash locally rather than order online with a credit card!!!!

Thanks all!
I have not compared it to any other 5 watters yet as I don't have any others to build with yet. This one was my sample from Future.

And yes I got the Oracle 4C from NDS.

Yep beam is fully adjustable... Wide angle to tight spot in the tops of the trees!

Nope, did not have to do anythiing with the reflector as the threaded LS mount is stock from the flashlight with the exception of a copper top for the LS to sit on where the old incan bulb came thru.

This is a pretty decent donor light to work with.
I still think the Craftsman 3D light is a better donor as far as heat sinking a 5W LS.
But the Oracle has good heat transfer to the head and reflector assy.

Heat dissapation is the single most important aspect to designing these things. and the hardest IMHO.

very nice!
how much amps are you drawing with freshly charged batteries?
