Just wondering if we ask nicely do you think that nice man 4Sevens might do some of his Quark line up in safety orange in the future :). I would love an AA tactical in bright orange.

Cheers Andy

That depends on how well it would sell. I'm going to recommend you start a poll and see if you can get the numbers up .

I'd love to see a light Quark like this. I'd prefer it be "international safety orange" instead of some day-glo or neon-like color though... still nice and noticeable but not nearly as gaudy... (Just for reference, when the Golden Gate Bridge has a nice new coat of paint on it, that's what "international safety orange" looks like.)

Contact jslappa and see if he would be willing to cerakote one for you. He has a sales thread around somewhere here offering to kote lights and parts. He can do a mess of different colors I believe, and it would get you what you are looking for.

I think tactical/safety orange makes a whole lot of sense. The most practical reason, at least for my usage, is if it slips from my day pack it will be noticeable.

Malkoff offers it which says something:

ESEE knives offers this option from G-10 handles as well and I've opted for them.

I wouldn't have a clue how to start a poll  but would be grateful if someone can show me or a mod could just use their magic powers and make it happen

Cheers Andy

Imagine loosing a light that is:

-Safety Orange
-Has a GITD ring around the bezel
-Has a reflective band around the middle
-Has 4 tritiums around it

The ultimate high vis torch....

I imagine it would probably add a solid $50 to the price to do all that though.

Probably more. The orange HDS Clickies from Oveready had a $36 premium. I guess it will depend on volume and if it is done in a country with cheaper labour costs.

i'm in... Have been hanging out for an orange light for a long time. Having 2 orange lights purchased on the marketplace get "lost" in transit... would prefer to buy from a dealer from now on and the Quark range would be fantastic... An orange cerakote xpg-S2 with apocalypse low (or whatever it ended up being called)

There are several factors:

Anodize benefits from volume production. You can put 10x the number of parts in the same tank with only a small increase in costs. Short of robotic operations, spraying 10x the number of lights is 10x the amount of work (and cost).

Unlike anodize, which is essentially public domain worldwide, ceramic paints are not that common. Cerakote, for example, is proprietary and made in the US.

The application of H grade Cerakote involves several steps that internal parts (LEDs, etc) would not survive. So the paint must be applied before it is assembled or after it is disassembled (before being reassembled). So unless the paint is or can be applied near where lights are built, the back and forth would get silly.

Chinese parts/materials and labor are cheaper (their currency is actively undervalued). If the paint is not also made there, it could easily double the production costs for a light that normally sells for $40.

I'll play devil's advocate. All this safety orange this and hi vis emergency yellow stuff needs to go. Flashlights were meant to be a) metal and b) black

:)

I like how you think :)

I agree, and have been looking into some stuff, possibly expanding my business...give me a couple months and we'll talk!
