Other lamps in the SF M6?

I was wondering if any other lamps will work with the M6 to allow longer battery life.

I recall seeing someone post that the M6 actually ran a 9V lamp and something else would fit, but I couldn't find the post.

In a similar question, I was wondering if someone had considered trying to retrofit the 10X battery housing for Li 123A cells?

Thanks,

You probably heard that from me. Yes the M6 is a 9v light and the M3T is a 9v light. However I have been informed the M3T's lamps won't last long in the M6. The reason is the M3T lamps rely on a drop in battery voltage when the lamp is on, and since the M6 has twice the battery power the voltage drop is a lot less, thus overdriving the lamps. So both of the M3T lamps will fit but wouldn't last long. Wouldn't it be nice to see a 2.5 hour lamp for the M6? It would be very close to the M3T's MN15 about 125lumen.

Yes it would. It's interesting that they don't have a Li powered version of the 10X. It really seems the best of all worlds. Certainly with the modular battery case it seems it wouldn't be that hard.

Shhhh, but there is rumor of a M8. Aparently PK from Surefire was seen shining it around his office, it was larger then the M6 but differnt then the 10X.

talk of an M8 has been around since before I got interested in SureFires...

Seems like 2002 will not be a quiet year for SureFire.

Any idea how long the MN15 M3T lamp would last in the M6?

Thanks,

I would guess about 1/4 the usual time so maybe 4 to 5 hours??? That is a total guess. The hardest part on any lamp is when it first turns on so it also would depend on mow many times it was turned on and off, and also how new the batteries were, if they were used a bit then you switched lamps it would last longer also. If you do try it let us know how long it lasts.

So a lamp is normally only rated for 20 hours? Doesn't seem like that much time.
