Do you absolutely have to have the latest and greatest, or do you prefer to stick with the tried and true?

I'd been on the fence for awhile on purchasing an Ra/HDS clicky, but then I saw this thread, and decided maybe it's time. I received my new light and custom holster last week and have been trying to get used to a new EDC, but...

...I seem to be having trouble putting the old one out to pasture...

For years I've been carrying a Novatac 120P in a TADGear sheath on my belt and it's never failed me. I love the form and weight of this light and accessing it is such second nature that I just have to think "I could use some more light" and it's in my hand. Other than just wanting something new, there is no reason to replace it.

My new clicky is everything it's reputed to be; over-engineered, excellent fit and finish, and great beam.

However, after carrying it for a week, I've gone back to the Novatac. It's an older model, so I don't think Henry would be offended since it's also his design and has the same characteristics. I'm sure I'll end up swapping back and forth several more times before I make up my mind.

Regardless of which light I carry, I'll be doing so in my new holster. No questions which one I prefer there. Dan (Hogokansatsukan) did an awesome job on it.

I guess we wouldn't be flashaholics if we didn't desire what we don't need.

Anywhoo, I couldn't figure out how to put a poll in here, but I'm curious...
What about you? How long have you carried your current EDC light? Longer than 5 years? Less than 6 months?

I know I can't be the only crazy one here. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into this while waiting to get screwed by Dad.

I'm the furthest thing from a gadget freak so I stick to what I like and the tried and true. Heck, none of my vehicles even has EFI! :D I *love* carburetors!

Most of my LED lights have outdated emitters in them by today's standards. They have either XR-Es or MC-Es and I'm perfectly happy with them. I do have one up to date XP-G light, a Fenix TK45, and like almost every XP-G powered light that I've played with so far it just doesn't do much for me. I mean, I like it, but I'm not going to ditch all my XR-E lights and replace them with XP-G versions like what some CPF members have been doing.

I tend to be that way about everything in my life. I don't have to have the latest and (supposedly, according to the manufacturers) greatest anything to make me happy. My newest vehicle was built in 1984 and I absolutely love it. It's my newest vehicle by *twenty* years too! :D

I've had my current EDC light, a Fenix LD20 for eight months now. My previous EDC light, an upgraded Mini-Maglite, I've had since about 1985. I now use the Mini-Maglite as a backup EDC and it *still* goes everywhere with me. I've found a lighting system that works well for my use and I'm happy with it so I have no urge to make any changes anytime soon.

Companies hate guys like me because they'd go out of business if all their customers were like me! :D

With you there. I got my SR3 back form Nitecore today, and I didn't realise how much I loved it until I put a freshly charged AW 16340 and turned on that perfect beam.

I love my old novatac too
My new toys haven't replaced it, instead they seem to live alongside it so my edc lights are now a novatac120p a surefire t1a and 9p with moddoo triple, and a surefire a2
The novatac has been my edc for around 4 years
I'm not sure exactly when I got it, but it has been there a while

My incans still get more use than the R5 Quark I got a few months ago.
