I'm pretty new to this flashlight modding and all, but I have this one light, its a 2.4 watt halogen bulb running off 4 AA batts and I am thinking about switching out for a brighter bulb. Would I want a higher wattage bulb or a lower one? I have heard about over driving a 3D Mag with a 2D bulb, or something like that, but I'm not sure how that would work for my situation... Does anybody have any advice?

-if you want to get a higher wattage bulb you'll need to change the batteries (if you are running alks you need nimh)
-with a high wattage bulb some stock parts may melt (reflector, bulb older, lens) I don't know if your light has metal parts...
-with 4AA nimh you have 4,8V so you can run a FiveMega axial 4V bulb (it will be quite bright),(I think that this bulb is the TOP of this battery set up)
-finally, I don't know which light you have (but I think not a mag-lite:thinking:) so may be difficoult that FM's bulb will fit in your light (it's bi-bin)

good luck with your mod
P.S: more details will help us to help you...:twothumbs

Its a older Trek headlam for a bicycle. It throws a decent beam with the halogen, good enough to light up the trail a little, but I want to get more throw out of it so I can aim it higher. The beam is wide and short, so it makes a better high beam than low beam (my Ultrafire DX 1AA cree works great for that!). Tried throwing a teralux 1W PR-base LED in there to use as a running light, but it is horribly incompatable with the reflector and all, and it is much less useful now. The housing and reflectors are all plastic, and if Im going back to incan Id like to throw in a slightly upgraded bulb; just to get a little more throw and overall light output from.
