Guys both use a Cree and one CR123 battery but which do you consider a better light and why? The P1D has three light levels plus SOS and strobe while the P2D has four light levels plus SOS and strobe yet the P1D costs more (from Fenix Store).

better light in terms of quality - P1D CE
better light in terms of easy UI - P2D CE

but i wish Fenix will come up with a clicky body for the P1D CE eventhough that will beat the purpose of having the P2D CE in their store. But with limited offer to all the P1D CE owner, why not.I know there is a custom made clicky body for the P1D CE but the price is the :faint: despite the quality is superb.
Oh well i'll keep on

I guess it depends on how you use it. I think for pocket carry. I will choose the P1D, it is slightly shorter and feels more solid without having a rubber switch on the end. especially if you carry other bits and pieces in the pocket that can damage the switch. If i carry it on a holster on the belt, i think i will choose the P2D, because the difference in size is less important. The switch is less likely to be interrupted, and is quicker to turn on and switch modes.

I have both the P1D and P2D cree editions. I like the P1D because of its simplicity. A twisty will always work and it is very small. However, when the P2D came out, I bought it because I prefer the clicky over the twisty. Just a personal preference. The other advantage that I see for the P2D is that you can twist the head down so that the light will always come on at the highest setting if you prefer your lights to be at their brightest when first turned on. You can't do that with the P1D. So, just as said before, it really comes down to which switch type do you prefer. You could always buy both! :twothumbs

I agree on the P2D. It works great for single handed operation (except turbo). I have the P3D and it is nice to use as well ( a bit big for EDC though)

I prefer the smaller size of the P1D-CE for front pocket carry. I don't even want a clicky on such a small light.

Don't expect a price drop because there is no market pressure on the P1D-CE.

I have both and prefer P2D because I simply hate P1D's U.I. when changing level.

I am going to buy one of the new P1 CE with a single level and in this case the twisty switch will be good.:)

You may object that I don't need to change levels in the P1D but when you switch it on single handed it goes frequently to the next level by itself just because the contact is not closed immediately.:shakehead

I had both, and ended up giving the P1D to my brother.

To me the P1D seemed good in theory but flawed in practice: mine had extremely sloppy threads, an off centre LED, and terribly ringy beam. I really wanted to like it but couldn't.

My P2D on the other hand had much better QC throughout, a better beam, and a less irritating UI. It's my EDC and I'm extremely happy with it.

I like both, but I prefer clickies so I only use the P1D-CE with a Leef body.

I like the P2D better though, because of smaller size compared to the P1D-CE w/leef. I've bought an L2D body and tail to go with the P2D for versatility. The P2D plus L2D body and tail together cost $71 vs. just the P1D-CE and Leef body for $100. The P2D/L2D combo offers much more bang for the buck, IMO.

For some reason, my P1D-CE has a terribly ringy beam, but my P2D's beam is very smooth and well focused. I'm not sure why that is, because both emitters look equally centered in the reflector.

I have both and prefer the P2D because the UI works better with a clickie. The P1D does make an awesome keychain light though.

definitely go with the special edition. Op reflector and premium bin close the deal. head and shoulders above stock fenix models imho.
Both the P1d & the P2D are great. P1D is my first choice for big throw, minimum weight and reliablility - used mostly in the backpack.
P2D I just recieved, and that is what I would carry daily if I needed a lots of light potential in a small easy to use package.
Otherwise, the lodce SE is now riding in my pocket and I can't seem to remove it.

I don't have the P2D, YET, but I can comment on the P1D.

Pros:
Slightly more throw then the P2D
Slightly smaller then the P2D

Cons:
The UI is dumb. It goes Med, High, Low, Strobe, SOS. Why have a low if you're blinded from the Med and High levels. And why have a Strobe if you have to go through 3 levels to get there. If the P1D's UI was Low, Med, High, SOS, it would be much more useful.
It has a twisty. Twisty's are ok if you don't use the light much, or leave it on for a while, but if you're playing, just want to get quick light or want one handed operation, it's cumbersome.
It's more expensive.

Bottom line:
I can't comment on the quality of the P2D yet, but I don't see why anyone would buy the P1D over the P2D. After getting the P2D, I'll keep the P1D as a backup.

I like the P2D better (but not as much as the P3D). The P1D is a bit small for me and I don't particularly like twisties (I don't even use it anymore, I gave it to my daughter). I don't agree with comments about the P1D having better quality than the P2D. I have not seen that to be the case at all on my two lights.
