Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for an older metal body Surefire 6P LED replacement. I plan to use it as bike light and looking for strong throw (to see rather the to be seen), and the ability to use rechargeable batteries.

I have a Fenix L2D Premium that I currently use for a bike light and I would like to get significant improvement over it with the 6P. I am hoping that the 6P, having twice the volts, can be a significant improvement. I don't really use the 6P for anything presently.

I know there is a sticky thread on P60 LED replacement, I assume is similar, but I am hoping those with some knowledge of these can recommend one as a bike light.

Thanks,
-roger

For all the money you will spend, you can probably come close to buying something like the Niterider MiNewt Dual X2 with almost 300 lumens, a couple hours of runtime, and a fully rechargable Li-Ion pack... www.niterider.com

I bought the Sol a few months ago, and its great for commuting but I wouldn't want to use it (at least not JUST the Sol) for trail riding. BTW, Niterider has great warraenty service. I dropped my batt and it started to go on the fritz, they replaced it no questions asked AND FREE SHIPPING for the return of the old pack!

Are you saying I would be spending $300 for a drop in for a light I already have? I am not sure what you mean.

One thing I like about a flashlight is that when I reach my destination it gets carried in its case on my belt.

I'm saying your going to be spending money on not just the drop in but batteries, a charger (if going rechargable, if not you'll be spending a lot more on batteries) as well as the drop-in.

The reason I recommended a dedicated bike light is simply that they are designed for the job, and especially that minewt dual is absolutely a wonderful light with virtually flawless regulation. I've used various flashlights on my handlebars a lot, including my 'favorite' edc Q5/14500 combo. That said, its much nicer to get home and plug your pack in than to have to always be swapping around single cells. Plus, a lot of the time you're only going to get 1 hour or less with the flashlights (thats obviously not an absolute) but with many of the newer led bike lights your looking at a solid 3-4 hours regulated output a significant brightness levels (minewt dual 300 lumens for 4 hours?).

get this led insert. Its astoundingly good - for its price
(mine is a bit on the bluer white side)

But dont get fooled:
even a perfect one wont give You a very edge over the L2D.
In fact L2D or P3D for biking (Turbo all the time) is a dead race. With the L2D offering the longer runtime.

Only if You change to an 18650 (and a suitable circuit), thats better than 2 AAs or 2 CR123a --> search for the treads on modding 6P
