This is intended for my DBS, that light has a massive reflector and head for good thermal management. That's the reason I can use 2.4A to the MC E emitter in such a small light. In smaller lights I recommend stopping at around 2A. I used an MC E M-bin WC tint that I reflowed to a 15 mm XR E board. I got the emitter from amilite.co.kr, the drivers and the empty brass pill are from kaidomain/DX.
Preparing the multimode driver with a spring on it's underside.
Sanding down the simple 1.4A driver so it will fit in the pill.
Drilling two holes for wires with a "dremeltype" diamond cone tool bit. One at Q4 for positive to led and one at Q2 for neg. to led. As small as possible.
Preparing th multimode driver. 26 gauge teflon wire. The led neg. wire (top pic left) is stripped a bit for soldering it to the next board that will sit on top of it. Wire goes through the hole at Q2. Solid copper wire (top pic middle) through the hole in the middle on the 1.4A board. Led positive (top pic right) goes through hole at Q4 on upper board.
Led neg. soldered to neg. pad on the top board at Q2. Middle copper wire used to bridge the missing diodes on top board. Led positive just passes through th hole. A solid copper wire used for ground between the boards at the edge on left.
The reflowed MC E. It's a parallell connection. I removed a faulty XR E from a 15 mm board and used the board for this mod. I added just a little bit of soldering paste.
Neg. battery contact by soldering the drivers to the brass pill.
It's a bit hard to center the MC E before the AA epoxy set, you need to be quick about it. Really good throw with the smooth reflector + very bright spill. Battery draw is 2.52A on high and 60 mA on low (which is very low) with a 2 year old AW 2200 mAh cell. It has a ring for a hotspot as expected, otherwise the beam is smooth.
Runtime with this type of driver is something like this with a 2200 mAh 18650. Flatter/longer with 2400/2600 mAh cells.

I did some beamshots. It's difficult to do long range shots outside as it's just too bright at the moment. Outdoor shots were done at midnight. Just showing hotspots at 50 m. There's a sligt hole in the hotspot but that doesn't really matter for me. It works very well in the smooth DBS reflector.
I have no SKU for the brass pill, it's part of an empty DIY kit with D26 reflector and springs for a few $. Both DX and Kai sell those kits, as do many other places. All pills I have seem to fit my DBS, I've tested dozens of different pills.
Lights:
DBS with Cree MC E module at 2.4A. M bin, WC tint. 18650. Smooth reflector.
DBS with Cree XR E module at 1.2A. R2, WH tint. 18650.Smooth reflector.
1D Mag with Cree MC E at 2.8A. M bin, WC tint. D LiION. OP reflector.
3D Mag with 3 x SSC P7 at 2.8A each, DSWOI. D LiION. Smooth reflectors.
