hi - 1st post...

surprisingly i've not seen too many comment made for mountain bike applications (offroad/woods/trails). while i've seen general comments on the SST 50/90 and XPG R5... any recommendations on the best module for use on a mountain bike? probably rarely exceeding ~20 mph, but in the woods... i'm looking to mount a Solarforce L2p (with some module) on the bars... i'm thinking the brighter the better? also want maybe 3 power modes and a daylight temp (~5500K +/-)...

would, e.g., a Linger 2x XPG or P7 b better choices over the SST 50/90 or XGP R5? or even necessary?? or maybe some other module? at 20 mph i might guess a wider flood may b more important than 100s of feet of throw? i'm thinking the SST 50?

will use single protected 18650

(also will have a helmet mounted Untrafire C1 w/ XPG R5)

thanx in advance

+1 on 3 cheers for Dave! :twothumbs

The SST-90 DD is an absolute beast. You're gonna love it when night finally arrives, although your neighbors may not share in your "delight" :poke:

Mine came with an OP reflector. Can I still get a smooth one?

HI

Yes I can send one if you want to try to replace it as they are glued and sorry I missed the smooth, my bad.

Please folks help me out this is from main page

When ordering please post your order in this thread plus put details of what type led ordered including choice of reflector / levels and type driver DD or regulated / check to see if address is visible .

I plainly missed this but it sure helps for all orders to be put in paypal notes in stead of me digging through bunches of PM's a day to find out what is needed

sorry for the problem my bad.

Address in paypal is correct.

Thanks Dave!

If you could that would be great. Sorry for not putting it in my paypal notes. Can I get it loose with just some vice grips?

Hi

I sent a pm to you talking about some of the problems of you doing it. Since it is a weapon light I am not sure which thread lock I used.

Two sets of channel locks *should* work, make sure you are loosening! When replacing do not over tighten, repeated changing of reflectors will loosen the lens beyond repair.

Please read the PM i sent and if questions please PM

Sorry I missed it.

So the best thrower you make would be an
SST-50, in cool white? Im thinking Direct drive and 3 mode. Is there an optic choice?

And this would be $65 with paypal through a checking account?

Hi

Well it is the best high power thrower, the definition of thrower being so subjective I will agree. The XRE with a 90 degree viewing angle has the tightest beam but only about 250 or so in lumens.

The SST 50 is IMHO a good thrower but certainly not a beam pattern like the XRE as the SST 50 has ample spill. It does have a good dedicated hotspot and one of my favorites as it has few beam imperfections.

As for optic choices yes you have smooth or lop for reflectors😀

Let me know if you have more questions.

thanks

Dave

OK. So I'll take an SST-50, in cool white. Direct drive and 3 mode. Orange peel for throw, right? $65.

And a New Low Power Special 1.2v to 4.2v with an XRE in cool white, with a 90 degree optic. $30. (Is this the best throwing 3P drop-in you can do?)

Hi

I myself like a smooth reflector, the optic will have a more of smooth beam but I still like a reflector but with one less lens but that is me.
The reflector will have some outer rings but a a tight hotspot. Fine outside not for wall hunting

If you like the looks of SF style beam you will like these as these optics are totally clear. The optic certainly has a tight beam and is smooth.

I am sorry you will have to ultimately decide but maybe that helped.

hey dave,

i have a couple of questions on the Linger Special.
is it a p60 drop in for a 6p 0r 9p surefire? or im thinking getting a malkoff md4 body with an md2 head and dropping it in it, how would it work in that? it would run on 4x123 or 2x18650. what is the best battery configuration for the linger special? and are they still available? ron

HI

I think I missed this post, it must have been the last on the other page or something anyway it just showed up sorry.
Many have been using both the XPG R5 and the SST 50 for biking. A few a red diamond dragon or XPE for the rear.
The SST 50 will be the brightest and have good throw with plenty of spill to light the sides up some also. The SST 50 will be between 550 and 600 lumens. Price is as listed at $65.
The XPG is smaller but less power more runtime, garners about 325 lumens and again a good mixture of throw and spill.
Either will work with your L2P as I include a whole spring which usually is needed with L2P. Both will work with 18650 or 2XCR123.
If you don't have a mount I have an inexpensive one that is universal and works good with L3P or 6P type lights.

Hi Ron

The modules I have are made to fit 6 P surefire or 9P depending on module and if it can take the added voltage. They also fit L2p and such.
As for the MD4 and MD2 i am not sure if they fit them. I have had conflicting reports.

As for the dual XPG they are always available, they are 3.6-6 volts max so a 9P would take a dummy cell to accommodate the voltage. The 9 P was originally for incans and the more voltage the brighter but with leds that is not true very often. It is simply more voltage to buck down.
You can use a 17670 in a 6P for a dual XPG or you can use 2XCR123 but NO RCR123. You of course if bored out can then use a 18650.

Bottom line is both take about the same battery configs. 3.6-6 volts.

Thanks

Dave

Hi All

I will be out of town starting Tonight Thursday and will not be shipping until next Wed. August 11 all orders placed up to now will be shipped before I leave.

If you know what you want you may order needed modules but I won't be able to process them until next Wed.

I am not sure if I will have available hotspot if I do I will check and answer questions which I will try to do.

If no hotspot is around then I will answer when I return but hopefully I will be checking in during this time.

thanks

Dave

I use a Linger Special 2.8a single mode in warm on the bars and an SST50
in a C-2 velcroed to an old P4ed Brunton headlamp - so 3 lights total
I do downhill mtb and use a fullface helmet so have to mount on
a strap. Ive found the helmet light to be way more important than
the bar mounted light. I just wish there was a p60 compatible headlamp
host out there😗

the Linger is AWESOME for MTB
Ive hit some big doubles n drops at night with this set up no prob!
