There is a trick to make Paypal work with the Shoppe.

Normally, once you click and send money you are done. You can close the window, shut the PC down and sleep peacefully knowing your order is being processed.

The Shoppe uses osCommerce and requires you to hit the little continue link on the lower right on the final paypal screen which will send you back to the osCommerce site completing your transaction.

Details Why: (The boring stuff. Stop reading here)
===================================
For a web store to know the paypal transaction has completed it needs to come back. In this way the store knows the person paid and was successful. Not waiting for payment authentication ends up with in many cases orders without payment. This happended on the old site. Customers at the last second would decide to change their order cancel the paypal window, lose their internet connection or a myriad of other reasons never finished the Paypal screen to send the money.

Now the new site requires the user to return before the order is considered valid. We are now getting paypal transactions but no orders.

Work around:
===================================
If you are in this situation and you did not get an email copy of your order with an order number but you have a paypal transaction and you go back to the Shoppe and your shopping cart is still full.

Continue on and go through checkout. Please select money order and please put in the notes section that you have a separate paypal transaction (include transaction ID). Please also add any additional notes as needed so that we can link your paypal to the order.

Can someone take a screen snaphot of the final Paypal screen and the successful osCommerce screen and email them to me. I'll erase and numbers found on the paypal screen before using it.

Thanks.

I emailed the screenshots to you Wayne. I needed an excuse to get the AA Brass collar & button.

Thanks for the images... Geez, you didn't have to order the whole store. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's the familiar Paypal Screen.

After you paypal the final payment screen is as follows:

Shhh. It's not a real order total. I jacked up the total, as a subliminal suggestion. (No charge for that, Wayne)

You are now entering...the sandwich zone...get out your wallet, and put on your sunglasses... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Wayne, you may want to tack this thread to the top.
All un-initiated members looking in the Sandwich Shoppe forum would be more likely to see these instructions. I botched my first transaction.

OT: Paypal vs. CC

If a webstore can take normal credit card payments, what would be the advantage of using paypal instead of the normal cc transaction?

PS Apologies for the OT note but I feel that it is appropriate to ask.

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

rajanf1,

Just my 2c worth on this. The fees the shoppe owner gets charged is about the same for Paypal and CC so from the shoppe end they are about the same. Paypal transactions are usually completed immediately and the service I use Authorize.Net takes one day to process the actual transactions. In general the above statement is true.

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

Uh, oh. I just placed an order for 2 UCLs, Transaction ID: 63A30027GS208742A. I'm not sure I clicked the right button because I don't remember seeing the osCommerce screen. I did, however, get an e-mail receipt from paypal. Do you think the order is okay?

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

Oh man, that's kind of a bad software deficiency in Paypal carts or OsCommerce or both. A workaround at the OsCommerce side might be to automatically notice the email from Paypal and then connect to Paypal to verify that the payment has arrived (don't believe the email all by itself, since that's too easy for an attacker to forge).

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

The standard e-mail "Notification of Payment Received" was sent this afternoon. So the order did go through all by itself.

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

Wayne,
I put an order in (476) for parts to build a McModule on 7/21. I added a question in the comment section concerning 5W LED and possible other incidnetals necessary to complete a McModule mod. Have not received any response back other than Paypal receipt & order number receipt. I would like all parts necessary to build a McModule in 1 shipment. Pls. reply to [email protected]. Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Wow. I just realized that this is Wayne's territory, not Chris's. Sorry guys. Please ignore my previous posts.

Re: OT: Paypal vs. CC

Friday August 15th. Paypal seems to be having serious problems. Logging in to check status or any other functions seem to be crippled.

Not only that but the package sent from osCommerce to paypal includes a tag with shipping that is passed from osCommerce. I think paypal is erroring and dropping that field and not charging the customer for the shipping portion of the order.

This in essense is free shipping... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

While this may be good for you, it is not good for me. Orders taken today the 15th all have the shipping missing.

This appears to be a paypal only issue and not the shoppe. I cannot absolutely be certain of this so I have re-opened the shoppe hoping that if you pay via paypal to ensure the total is the the same as the shopping cart and includes the shipping portion.

I don't believe the Credit Card (Authorize.net) is affected or if you pay by Money Order.

I believe the shoppe is functional and will re-enable it immediately for business.

***edited***
As of Saturday the 16th, order has been restored. Paypal did a Software upgrade Thursday night and reset at least one parameter in my user profile disabling this feature. It is now working again. WY
