Just found this out yesterday afternoon and thought I would give a shout to everyone. Quartermaster supply in California has a short run of the PD31 with a black clip. Went up online yesterday, but the product details were incorrect so I called them. They said that it is a PD31 rated at 304 lumens (same as before) with a TI coated clip vs the silver clip on my original (no big deal to me).

I'm a Fenix junkie and happy to see this back available so I can pass the addition over to my brother on this weeks camping trip. He says he can't wait to show me his new gerber iris flashlight (60 lumens). Oh is he in for a surprise.

It lists XM-L U2 LED, but the Fenix site says XP-G R5??

EDIT: It also appears to be backordered.

Yeah it might be the successor to the PD31.

Edit: If the XM-L part isn't a typo it is the next one, but I would imagine it having different output which it doesn't so maybe it isn't.

Called and talked to a guy. He said his buyer guide does match what is listed online, so the stats are correct.
He said since it says online that it's a special edition, it could be a Quartermaster exclusive. He didn't sound too sure about it though, and I think it's just listed that way because of the 4000 run.

Even though it says backordered online, he said they have about 100 in stock.
Maybe they managed to get a batch of the 4000? But that doesn't explain the XML and black clip..
It also doesn't make sense that this is a new flashlight.. It isn't advertised anywhere on the Fenix website.

XM-L is the new Cree LED correct? It's supposed to be much more efficient than the XP-G, and brighter as well.. So the 304 lumens doesn't make sense.. Unless they limited it to 304 to maintain an even product line? Maybe it just lasts longer?

To order.. or not to order....

hello everyone,

this light is in stock again at amazon, at least at the moment.

I've been browsing the forums for a while now and decided to order the PD31 (my first LED flashlight) from Amazon a couple of days ago. I received it today and it does have a black TI colored clip instead of the polished stainless steel looking one (which i'm pleasantly surprised about) and on the box it says it uses CREE XP-G R5 LED.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted Fenix a few days ago, and they did say that it still uses an XP-G R5, and that quartermaster has it listed wrong.

I have been on the hunt up in Canada since I missed out on the initial limited run of these bad boys. Hoping that I might just find one for sale here on CPF some time soon 🙂.

Love my fenix lights, my current EDC is a PD20 and a TK-11 lives in my work truck 🙂.

Amazon has some still in stock.

I jumped on one of these from Amazon last week and it should arrive today. This is my first light that will take the 18650 rechargeable. What is the best battery and charger to buy?

Thanks
