Peak Eiger Rebel AAA?

Anyone knows if this will be available on their website?
(Pls don't ask me to call, they'd probably be having sweet dreams 🙄)

Zeruel if you ring when you get up of a morning they won't be :sleepy: 7 am your time should be 4PM Peak time.

Try this site The World Clock - Time Zone Converter - Singapore – Singapore vs U.S.A. – Arizona – Phoenix
It is so much easier to discuss over the phone.
Sorry I know you said not to ask you to call 😗
Norm

ahh... thanks Norm. 🙂

Probably they won't be sleepy at 4pm, but I will.

I'm a sucker for floody lights! So, after talking with Curt this morning, I have a couple of Eigers on order. The first is a #6, medium optic, natural tint, and then a #3, wide optic, natural tint. They will include a 1xAAA lugged body, a 1xAAA pocket body, and a 2xAAA body, all aluminum bodies for light weight.

I plan to use the #3 indoors when I don't need a lot of light, and the #6 outdoors for the late evening walks. Curt's having to order the wide optic, so it will be next week before they ship, so the anticipation builds. Can't wait to get my hands on them!

I am hoping to have them up on the website within the next couple of days - I will advise when they are available via site.

I would never think that you are a "rude fella" - I am about as far away from a morning person as the come!

Curt is sometimes here pretty late if that helps - (7 or 8 pm our time) - I'm sure Norm wouldn't mind converting that to your time 🙂

All the best !!

Robyn - I received both of my Stainless Steel Eiger heads (#2 floody & #4 "Normal"). Neither of them shipped with o-rings. Do o-rings only come with complete flashlights?
Love the lights though - the Eiger at #4 level lights up my backyard.

I just received The 360nm fuji triple today. Very nice:twothumbs Now it looks like I'm going to need one of these Eigers. Are there any brass lug bodies available?

I received my #4 medium today as well. I am writing up some information to post with comparison to other small lights. The Eiger appears to be a very efficient light and puts out a nice amount of light. I like it so far and its not even dark yet!

Hi Randy,

Our bad! O rings in the mail today. Sorry 🙁

regulator, glad you received your #4 medium angle cool. I enjoyed playing with the #6 wide angle cool, but a little more runtime would be nice. I'm interested to see how you like your model, esp. beam tint and coverage, as well as runtime. I look forward to your posts on it.

Hi Randy:

When I build and test the lights it saves time not to have the o-rings on the heads and when they get married to the bodies is when the o-rings go on and are lubricated. I wanted to get the Eigers out as quickly as possible and just overlooked the o-rings. Over the weekend I made some metal trim rings that get press fitted to the inside front of the head. They are also being mailled to you. These have a small locking area and seat on the window and against the inside of the head to seal that area and improve the overall look of the light. The window is also a press fit against the top of the optics. The window and trim ring are both replaceable if ever required.

What sets the Eiger apart from other lights is that it is one of the smallest high power LED AAA lights that uses an optic (there may be 1-2 other customs). I was told that the wide and narrow beams use a reflector. You can pick the power levels that you prefer. I believe the advantage that this should offer is a more efficient constant current driver that is tailored to do only one thing but do it well. We shall see. I believe that most of the other small AAA lights (high power) use the less efficient PWM drivers, but offer more output levels. My unscientific comparisons are the best I can do since I do not have any test equipment. Runtime can be extracted from current draw and brightness can only be guess-timated based on the other lights (sorry).

LIGHTS FOR COMPARISON:
Nightcore D10 w/Q5 Cree (210ma at battery and adjusted to match output of Eiger)
Eiger #4 power, medium optic, cool tint (140ma at battery - Enegizer Lithium)
Peak Pacific HP Luxeon (180ma at battery)
Liteflux LF2X (can't easily measure ma, 14400 cell 15% setting)
Nitecore EZAA Cree Q5 (80 ma at battery)

CEILING BOUNCE TEST:
The Eiger was noticeably brighter than the Pacific by a little bit. I would guess the Pacific is 8-9 true lumens out the front.

Eiger and D10 were matched for equal brightness. This shows that the driver/LED combination in the Eiger is more efficient.

Eiger was ever so slightly brighter than the LF2X at the 15% P1 setting using a 14400 li-ion cell. I could not get the meter probes in a place to get a current reading – I need more room and another set of hands to hold everything!

Eiger is much brighter than the EZAA stage 1. The EZAA is rated at 10 lumens but I suspect it is closer to 6 true lumens out the front.

The figures listed by Peak seem to be pretty accurate and list the # 4 level at approximately 13 lumens.

BEAM - The beam of the Eiger medium optic provides a broad even spread. I think people who like flood will have no problem with the amount of spread this light produces. It kinda reminds me of the profile of a Bitz that I used to own. Its sorta like a projected flood that fades into spill.

TINT – The tint seems vanilla and not blue at all. It is less cool than any of the WC Cree lights that I have. It seems similar to a WD tint Lumapower Incedio. I would call this one natural and not cool. It is not warm either – I do not like warm/yellow tints.

CONCLUSION: I just got it this afternoon and have not had time to play with it so none as of yet. My first impression was that it was not putting out much light until I was in a dark room and compared it to the output of my EZAA on low and seen how much more light it was putting out. I became more impressed when I took current readings and saw that this light is very efficient for the power draw/light output.

I think I would be interested in seeing how the narrow reflector works. I need to play with the light some more but think I would like a little less flood and just a bit more throw (but thats just personal and it does a nice job). I am also a little concerned about how well the optic/lens will hold up against getting scratched. Overall it is a nice tiny light that offers good runtime and output. Now time to play with it some more.

Wowee  Looking forward to it.
Thanks!

Curt- from your description, does the trim ring sit on the outside of the window to cover the transition between the window and the lip of the light- presumably also hiding what appears to me to be a tiny portion of the green circuit board edges? Are they similar to these Carribean trim rings (pic from MWClint post)?

Yes to the look and placement of the trim ring.

Is the narrow beam reflector larger (diameter) than the wide angle reflector? Does anyone have a picture of the front showing what the narrow beam "reflector" looks like. I am considering picking up a narrow beam Eiger but don't really care for the look of the wide angle reflector - looks like it was not made for the size head and does not fill the opening.

BTW - I really like the output and beam of my Eiger #4 medium "cool tint". It makes for a great task light and really floods the area evenly. This is also my first Rebel emitter light and I see why some like it so much. I typically like cool tints (wc cree) but have seen the benifit of warmer tints outdoors and agree. This Rebel however seems to make the colors outdoors more pronounced (compared to my LF2X WC Q5 Cree) without having to be warm. Its a very nice balance.

I would guess between 5-6 hours regulated on a Lithium Energizer. Maybe 4 hours with decline aftwards on an eneloop. I think the output is great for general task work and I like the runtime.

I measured approximately 140 ma draw from a fresh 14400 Li-ion cell. This seems to be a very safe level and takes the light up another notch. You could maybe get 3 or so regulated hours at this level which is pretty impressive for such a small light.

I personally really like the #4 output level for most lighting needs in a tiny light. You can always use the 14400 cell to change the personality of the light if needed and still get a couple hours runtime. So it seems to be a very good balance.

I "may" go to a #5 level if I decide to try the narrow reflector version. But since having a projected beam will make the light appear brighter, I may just stick with a #4 level for the good runtime and efficiency.

My only concern is the reliability of the lens over the optic falling off since it appears to only be press fit and no ring holding in on. I'm also concerned about getting the lens scratched up. The optic looks like it may be holding back some lumens and causing an efficiency loss to the output since it is hard to see into the optic - but that may only be an illusion. The output is nice for the little bit of power it uses and the light itself seems nice and efficient. Maybe the narrow reflector will let MORE of those wonderful lumens out! All of this is just a guess and the medium optic is doing a very nice and unique job for this small light. I like the light the more I use it.

regulator,

Thanks for your comments---very helpful.

I'm likewise thinking a level #4-5, medium or narrow angle, would be nice to try. I also agree as to the cool tint---it's really very neutral IMO, not at all blue or "too" cool.
