I'm a little surprised the 10X Dominator hasn't come up here (though I'm biased if you can't already tell by my signature line ).

I had a few 10X Dominators in the past. The biggest downsize was the battery pack, and it not being any brighter than the M6.

From my perspective the 10X is very cool on a technical level, but it's one of the least practical flashlights I've ever owned. Both in function and maintainability. Honestly I think it's kind of obnoxious.

Funky look.... Definitely ahead of its time. Rechargeable battery tech. just wasn't there, yet. Those 10xs just felt so damn good in the hand. Even better than the M6. But my practical side easily won out and I bought a SureFire M6 instead.

I agree with the sentiments here that the rechargeable options from a couple decades ago were limited by battery technology and usually had no options to swap out for primaries. I was the same and built my incan collection on lights that had modularity and lots of aftermarket options, essentially future-proofing my lights as battery technology has changed and incan components have dried up.

I think commercial options were really hamstrung by the need to balance lamp life/reliability with color temperature/output. Even Surefire kept a 30 hour lower limit on nominal lamp life. Fivemega occupied the wonderful niche of "off the shelf" but with Carley bulbs designed to run at pretty much the absolute limit of the technology.

Similar to fivemega, the 2x18650 + WA1111 hit the rechargeable sweet spot for me as far as output, runtime, and beam quality. My preferred incan host (and still is) was the Surefire M6.
