Yes I used to rewind motors. But some are too cheap... and the fan falls into this group. Besides, windings are good.

Blade cage is thicker than the motor, and that's NOT a small motor.

No. I want more airflow with more noise. This is a big fan designed for warehouse/workshop/etc. Need airflow. And using 2 in tandem now... one would provide more air and take us less space.

Get yourself a big squirrel cage.

Ha... not mine. Warehouse guys don't know how to use a wrench, bolt, & nut.

They don't deserve such a fine piece of airmoving equipment.

I've found equivalent units... and they are a grand, plus shipping.

Might have a repair for the worn out pedestal fan.

Tore the motor down. Cleaned/greased bearings. Sprayed windings with some insulating spray. Cleaned 3 speed switch. And have a new capacitor on order... old one was bulged on the backside where you couldn't see it.

Still on the hunt for an upgraded model though.

Capacitor did not fix old fan. Winding still making growling noise. Speed is low.

Noticed wrong caps were sent. Will swap with correct ones. Speed seems to be maybe 75% of expected. Noise not bad, but motor should not growl. But if we are not getting correct phasing due to cap issues, that would explain it.

Cap replaced. No more growling noises. RPMs are higher and startup is 1/4 the time before.

Don't you hate that... when you fix something you have so now I don't have an excuse to replace it...

I know that's tongue-in-cheek, but I've always gained much more satisfaction from properly fixing something that was worth fixing than replacing it with something that might be somewhat inferior. Now, if it's a clear upgrade then, well, yeah...

Struck gold...

Same client was throwing away a similar fan, different brand. Did not run....

replaced switch
repaired motor internal wire
cleaned
added locking casters

Have to lock casters and even then it slides a little... but I'm in business.
