hello i am looking for a torch for scouting, my scoutmaster has a pelican 3330 that i like but i think i would like the surefire g2, though the g2 has a runtime of 60 minutes so that would be two cr123a's an hour. What are you thoughts on these two torches?

welll... i would opt for the G2 since there are many drop in available for the G2...

I guess ur gonna want to change to LED , or your gonna stick with incandescent? either way surefire g2 would be your choice due to vast amount of drop in available...

if ur gonna use incandescent... pelican 3330 or the g2 your runtime is gonna be an hour... u can get a warm tint led to use it for scouting...use malkoff...

i was thinking of getting the LED version of the g2, but that is twice the price...and the pelican 3330 is already an LED isn't it?

depends on what your requirements are, if you dont mind carrying spare CR123s, then get a G2 you will love it. I modded mine by replacing the lens with a UCL glass lens (available at www.flashlightlens.com), replaced the stock bulb with a Lumens Factory HO-9 and am using 2xRCR123s (3.7 volts each).

If you don't need a blast of light, you might to consider a 2 or 3 mode light instead. Although this is strictly speaking outside your posting question, i'll just throw it in anyway.

Look at the Fenix TK20 from www.4sevens.com, its a 2 mode neutral tinted LED Light which is TOUGH as nails and also has 2 modes which you switch my loosening the head for low (more like a medium) and tightening for high. I got mine for $48.90 (after using the "CPF8" discount code) and it's also free shipping worldwide.

It's a simple light that runs off 2xAAs which are cheaper than CR123s and if you get some rechargeable cells, you're going green too.

Most if not all TK20 owners are very happy with their choice.

I have both of these ploymer lights, and there's really no comparison. The G2 is better quality.

it says on there website the HO-9 is not compatible with the g2, also i was looking at the EO-9 because i am not sure if i need 320 lumens.

yeah, i read that too but what the heck, its working fine so far, possibly because the G2 in stock doesnt have a glass lens but i replaced mine with a UCL lens so heat melting the lens is no longer an issue.

My Pelican 3330 LED has a couple of nagging issues. And I still say that even a stock G2 is a better light, even though it has an inca bulb. Still, I don't use mine; and have been trying to decide what to do with it.

If you live in CONUS, I'd be happy to send it to you. Just PM me your name and address.

Here's a list of those nagging issues:

1- Donut hole in the beam that is obvious even when using the light outdoors.

2 - Slightly warped body that looks straight from the outside. (You have to pry out the lamp module with either your fingernail or a thin piece of metal. Then bang the light against your hand to get the cells to fall out. Inserting new cells means giving them a firm push to seat properly inside the body of the light).

3 - Partial finger-print inside the reflector. (Came that way).

Like I said, far from perfect. But if you want it, let me know. When you get a better light, you'll be able to use the Pelican as a back-up.

Good on you! I wanted to gift my Romisen RC N3 warm white to another CPF-er on another thread but since then no reply, a member commented that i might have frightened the lady (senior citizen) off with an unsolicited gift, haha.

In any event, good on you man, the generosity of members on this forum is astounding, makes me proud to be a member of CPF.

Indeed.

It's the most generous forum I'm a member of.

Newer members are unused to the generosity found here. Your offer may very well have frightened her off. Hopefully she'll reconsider.

Also, I made the offer (and it still stands) on my Birthday. Yup, I give away lights on my Birthday. How you like me now! :D
