Hi lightjunky´s

first of all I want to intoduce myself as a newbee to this forum. I am a police officer working with the Berlin Police Dep.
The issue light we have is the mini-mag (

but a lot of collegs bought a 6-cell C-Mag cause it has a little more impact then our rubber-dildo.

But what I am looking for is a good LIGHT to suport me when stepping out of my cruser.
I allready carry a Scorpion wich serves me fine as it is allways ready.

I am now looking at the Peli. M10.
Cause they say it has 40.000 CP, it is not so expensiv and I get the cells for free.

Also the Stinger HP and the UltraStinger are on my list. I allready read some reports about the bouth lights.
But what I want to know is how dos the M10 compares to the Scorpion and Stinger HP. ?

Has someone of you the experiance ???

Polizei:

I have owned the Pelican M10 for the past year. The 40,000 cp is misleading... the cp debate has been extremely well covered in numerous past postings, so I won't waste space doing it here. Suffice to say, your scorpion with its 6500 listed cp will outshine the M10's 40k cp.

The M10 has Pelican's "xenon laser spot" beam. While it sounds impressive, it serves to make a pencil thin beam of bright light, surrounded by a very dim outer circle. I have not found it to be terribly useful while making checks of an area. While Writeright on the lens has managed to improve the beam somewhat, it is still not up to par with most of my better lights.

You state that your fellow officers use 6C M**lights. If this is (possibly) for potential impact/defensive weapons, I would not recommend the M10. It is a polymer(soft plastic) light, and while lightweight, does not have much heft for that purpose.

For your stated purposes, I would recommend either the Streamlight Ultrastinger or the Tigerlight. I own an Ultrastinger and am very pleased with it. I don't own a Tigerlight (yet!

), but have been reading many positive reviews from other cpf members.

I have not been impressed by my Streamlight StingerXT HP upgrade, but a number of other cpf members swear by them ... opinions vary, I guess.

The M**light C models with overdriven krypton bulbs and some Writeright on the lens would probably serve as a very good, low cost upgrade.

If money is no object

, then a number of models from Surefire would probably suit your needs.

As this small number of options might indicate, the choice of an on duty light relies on what you are looking for in terms of price, uses, size, batteries, etc. I would suggest spending some time reading the many postings available here; many lights that would probably interest you are owned and reviewed by cpf members.

Good luck!!

Ouch... at least one cop in my town who has a decent flashlight

I second arioch & dano, go for Streamlight UltraStinger or SL-20X, they are well-built, bright and serve as an impact-weapon when needed

Available at toolshop:
Ultrastinger

Feel free to send me an e-mail if you need some of the fabulous "write-right" to upgrade your M*gl*te, I have some sheets left.

The Pelican is a great search and rescue light, but Pelican gears its beam patterns to underwater operations, hence the beam is very thin, but has a very long throw. Using an M-11 (rechargeable version of M-10) on patrol, I have found it is less than acceptable in a city environment.
Here's some quick suggestions:
--Streamlight Ultrastinger, I use it almost everyday, and it's a fantastic light. It is focusable, and doesn't lose a lot of beam quality with the different focus points. Aluminum construction can be used as an impact device.
--Streamlight SL-20X, is the USA's police workhorse flashlight. Works great, legendary dependability, and it's aluminum construction makes for a good impact device. it is non focusable.
--Tigerlight, I'm currently using the non-spray version, and it's a very bright, and dependable light. Probably a bit too short for an impact device. The aluminum construction has been very durable.

I have read many posts about the US and it sounds nice but dosn´t it has a too narow spot for lighting out urban areas ?

The size of the US is scaring me a little. This is why I also look at the Stinger HP.
Would the HP be a wast of money ?
Compared to the Scorpion ?

Seth,
die Welt ist klein...oder ?
Thanks for the offer.
And dont worry I know some cops here who have the Scorpion....but just cause we can get them for 38 euros
