For the price, they are mighty fine lights. They are not "cheap", just not terribly expensive. I just prefer UKE and Streamlight better. They make many similar lights in the same price range. However, the Pelican SuperSaber light is the light that has the most hazardous location approvals and best ratings, etc.

I believe explosion proof simply means that it is sealed so hydrogen gas can't explode, and the bulb will not explode if volatile gas leaks into the light and the bulb blows. I heard somewere that kryptons were safer in hazardous environments though...

There is a point at which the Bezel or casing gets too hot for some hazardous explosive environments. That's why many approved flashlights are a type of plastic and few are metal. Also non-conductive and non-sparking issues. Likewise with Lexan over Glass lenses for these types of flashlight.

I've got an extra Sabrelite for sale. It's like new condition and has a brand new still-in-package xenon bulb module. Nice and clean like the yellow light in the pic above except. This torch has Hubbelite logo but is the same light. I figure it's worth $15 postpaid?

browntown,

I've owned two of them. On the first I broke the bezel ring trying to turn it on and later the funky clip also broke. Trashed it and bought another one. What the hell was I thinking?

The 2d one isn't for sale, though. That's because I don't even know you and I'm trying to protect you. I dislike the light so much that I won't give Pelican the satisfaction of trying to make it better. Pass on this one. You'll be a better flashoholic for it.

I haven't had any problems with one I use. The main issue with these lights is the extreme sharpness of the beam...which can light up distant objects very effectively but is less useful at closer distances. The case seems to be pretty tough but maybe not?

So the propane guy came today, because the farm house apartment I live in sux. Point is the pilot on the oven kept blowing out. Guy pulls out a flashlight that i've thought of getting in the past, the pelivan super sabrelite 3c. (might of been the pocket sabrelight). He said he uses it because its explosion proof, and when sticking a flashlight near propane sources, it comes in mighty handy. said it ate batteries for breakfast though.

thought i'd pass on a flashlight encounter. anyone got one of these bad jammys? they look pretty cheap <50$

Browntown:

Since I rebulb most of my lights with rechargeables, I don't use my non-modifiable Super-Sabre Light much. I also don't have much need to stay explosion proof.

Mine is black. It's available for $24 shipped.

Many or most of the Streamlight and UK flashlights are rated for explosion type locations, too. For the car, I carry one, it just seems sensible in the event you need a flashlight at an accident scene. Gasoline is pretty much explosive...

If you live in any kind of an earthquake prone area it's a good idea, too.

Another bonus is that an explosion proof light is always waterproof. Not sorta, or kinda, but waterproof. (Doesn't mean diveable!)

ill pass lemlux, thanks for the offer though. gotta save my pennies for something much more exotic :)

I think the Pelican Super SabreLite is a mighty fine looking flashlight.

These are great looking flashlights. The Orange versions are a great colour.

I still consider getting one even with all my SureFires to choose from...
