does anyone know if the only difference is a pot mod? can someone get a 100mW and "tunn it up" to make into a 150mW...OR does the 150mW actually have different internals?

+150mw ?

cnilaser.com still just says +100mw to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

ok, thanks.. but that really doesnt help with my question /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The highest power PGL3s use C-mount 1.2W pump diodes these go as far as 370mW when pushed hard.
Lower end PGL3s may have smaller diodes, I don't know...
It doesn't make sense to me to make all PGL3s with the same stuff and set some to lower power just to sell cheaper.

Well they sell as 100mw+ models but so far they have all been over 150mw so they are pretty much guaranteed so be over 150mw. Some measure over 200mw.

are you saying that the $430 model @100mw may measure over 150mw and up to 200mw. if thats the case why pay $690 for the >150mw for $690 that cni charges.

As far as I see it, on the products page http://www.cnilaser.com/_private/ep_pgl3.htm , cnilaser.com says that for the 532nm units, the available power levels are >100, >75, >50, >35 and >20.

That's been the way it's been for as long as I've known. Now when the >100mw units have been bought (Shiftlock will know more, I think he's had quite a few) they have all been over 150mw, most over 160mw, and a few over 200mw, generally around about 170% of the labelled power.

So if someone on here has actually contacted CNI Lasers about getting a laser labelled as >150mw (which isn't in the general product list), please tell us. How much did CNI want for a >150mw model? If it follows the VERY general rule of 170%, a >150mw model from cni could probably be in fact more like 230-300mw.

I would certainly pay $690 for that if its available, especially when laserglow recently told me that they'd give me a 200mw unit for $1699 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif

CNI has a record of offering a higher power model a couple of months before it actually appears on their site. Originally, the >150mW units were just for me, since I agreed to buy them all. When I backed out on an order of 20 in December (because selling them had attracted the attention of the FBI, who called my unlisted cell-phone number to ask about them), they started offering them to anyone who asked. Now it's an official product, although it's not on their site yet. I assume it will be soon.

I just bought one of the >150mw PGL3 lasers from CNI. It will take a week or two to get it I suspect and you have to wire transfer them the money. It was $640 plus $40 for shipping and another $20 for "bank charges", so the total cost paid to CNI is $700. You also have to pay for an international wiretransfer of funds from your bank account to their's and that can cost $30-$40 depending on your bank. I was also told that the customs charges could be as high as $60 or so. In the end the total cost will be about $800 I suspect.

Is it illegal to import those or were those gentlemen just curious?

I believe it is legal but with all that went on the news, I guess they were indeed curious of how these sales worked and whether it was possible for people with bad intentions to acquire something dangerous.
