Calling all Phoenix-area CPFers!

Steve Lebkuecher has hauled his sorry carcass (Hi, Steve!) off to the land of the Titans, the Volunteers, Graceland, and Davy Crockett, so our reliable organizer is no longer in the area, and I doubt we could convince him to set this up for us from his current location.

The last GT was held at Lost Dutchman State Park, and that turned out to be a pretty good location; it gave us facilities to cook and eat our food, room to spread out our collections, and lots of high-quality darkness to play with-- I mean, test :)whistle:)-- our lights. A few of us have been talking, and would like to suggest this as a possible site for our next GT, as well.

Do we have any volunteers to take over the job that Steve fulfilled so well, as the organizer of the GT?

Hi Mister One Eye.
I think I could take on the responsibility of getting the site. It would be fun to get the band back together. LOL. By late September or early/mid October the weather should be at least bearable. I DO think the site last spring was ideal.
Anybody else is sure welcome to chime in about helping to organize this. We'll need someone to orchestrate fod and refreshment requirements and the like......

Hey Guys

Looks like this sorry carcass will be missing this one but hope to fly in for the March GT

If you guys choose Lost Dutchman State Park make sure when you call the office you mention it will go after hours and see if you can get her to write that fact down on the receipt she mails you. As you may recall we had a late night visit from the ranger and he had no idea we had permission to be there after hours.

I had planned to do just as you mentioned in your post. In fact I hope to get a signature.... I'll have it handy to present to Mr Ranger if needed.
It looks like you're going to have a grand ole time at the SE GT you're planning. Let's hope so.
So far we have a three member thread going. Let's hope someone else joins in....

I am looking forward to SE GT, should be a lot of fun.

Here are some pictures from the last GT thread to give anyone new an idea of what the place looks like. Hmmm I bet that white stuff up in the mountains is nowhere to be seen now.

Hello all. I can attest to the great time we had this past spring. I would be interested in going, depending on what month we're planning on doing this. It strikes me that September will still be too warm/light, I'd think that mid-October would be better.

Hi,

I should be able to make it. Hopefully, there will not be a golf tournament in Gold Canyon this time. If I recall we needed more plastic knives, forks, and spoons, so I will take responsibility for these supplies. I guess I'll start the flashlight list. I will bring a just purchased new PT Impact XL that claims 24 lumens with an optic/lens [Max Bright 1 Watt LED].

So thunderlight will bring plastic "silverware" and the "new" PT Impact XL.

I live in Mesa and am all for attending something like this if I am free that weekend. How about some more details? I've only been a member here for a short time so I don't know what you guys are planning exactly.

<---Have lights, will travel.

Hi KingGlamis,

You will have fun. I've been to 2 of these. It's a social event where you get to meet a lot of interesting individuals. Conversation tends to revolve around lights, of course. Participants tend to bring their lights, but there is no obligation. You don't have to have the brightest, smallest, most efficient, oldest or whatever light. Needless to say, you will see some amazing lights and you will have the chance to see flashlights you might have been thinking about.

And you will finally meet in person all those people you only know now by their CPF acronym. Bring your sunglasses, they might come in handy at this event.

Ok so the attendee list is up to a whopping four now. Should I be trying to secure the site?

UncleFester...

YES, please secure the site! Chant it with me, now! We want the site! We want the site! We want the site...

Okay, so maybe this is jumping the gun a little, but how about you contact them and see what dates they have available, and let us know what they say? If the only dates they have are Thanksgiving and Christmas, then we should probably find a different site.

And who are the four? I count more than that... are you remembering spouses? (spice?)

I live in Surprise, and I think it's worth it to drive all the way from there to Lost Dutchman State Park to attend this thing. My wife (who is most definitely NOT a flashoholic) even had fun. Like thunderlight said, it's a chance to
  • put faces with the screen names you see,
  • see who brought (at least for this event) the brightest, or coolest, or newest, or oldest, or longest-running, or least-power-consumptive, or whatever light,
  • try out a light (or two, or three) you might have been thinking about buying,
  • see/touch/smell/taste (okay, maybe that's overdoing it a little) a light you've only read about, but have wanted to experience for a long time,
  • maybe show off some lights you brought yourself,
  • see lots of after-images on the insides of your eyelids,
  • consume food and beverages specially catered for the event, some of which is prepared on site,
  • and just generally have a good time in an informal setting.
So, will we see you there?

Sounds great, and I do want to meet other AZ CPFers, but this sounds like a camping-only place, no off-road vehicles allowed? If I'm correct, that could limit the attendance. I'm used to enjoying 50-100 miles a day of nature in one of my off-road vehicles, and then enjoying a decent amount of walking around/hiking. Just hiking alone doesn't cut it for me. Now if it was held at one of the many areas near here (Four-peaks for example) that does allow off-road vehicles, I would be much more inclined to attend.

OK Everyone.
I FINALLY got to talk to a live human at Lost Dutchman instead of voicemail.
WE'RE ON FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13 FROM 1600 TO 2400 Wooo Hooo!

Well, that leaves me out. I work every other Saturday, and of course...the 13th is on my workday.
I kinda anticipated a choice of dates to see what would work for people. Oh, well...maybe next spring.

Ummmm..... It looked like we (tho ones discussing this, that is) agreed on the middle of October. I saw NO OTHER input as to a date of preferance. The 13th is about as close to the middle as it can be on a weekend. I'm truly sorry if this won't work for you.

No, that's cool. I completely understand. When I said "middle of October" I wasn't trying to be literal, I just meant...somewhere after the midpoint of the month, or later. I wasn't trying to pick a specific weekend that was good for me, because:
1) I'm a bit of a newbie to the whole flashlight thing...at least compared to many at the spring event. That and being a bit quiet, I'm not the biggest contributor to the festivities.
2) I wasn't certain last year, and I'm less certain this year, of my ability to attend, right up until the last moment, due to family health issues. So, I wasn't about to dictate any sort of schedule when I couldn't confirm my participation.
So, if it sounded like I was whining that I hadn't been consulted...sorry! I didn't mean it that way. Just stating that I had rather expected to hear 2 or 3 potential dates, and then folks stating their preferences for one date over others.
No need to be sorry. I'll live (more than likely). Besides...it'll be your guys loss...you won't get to see my new SPY005, Gatlight V.3 Ti & V.3 Tuxedo, or Mr. Bulk Ti Dragon!!!
