I'm thinking of getting one of these for pocket EDC, and hoping they aren't much bigger than the 1 AAA maglites.

Can someone comment on size, weight, switch convenience, and beam pattern differences between the two ?

ie: Is either beam wide enough for around camp use ? Would either work better for night-time navigation ?

Also, to help me visualize relative size - does anyone have a side-by-side picture of the two with the 1 AAA maglite ?

Thanks.

Proton Pro is 1xAA, so it'll be quite a bit bigger than a Solitaire.

Here is a pic.

It's slightly shorter and fatter than a Solitaire, but about 75x brighter :grin2:

LOD is floody, Proton Pro has more throw. Proton Pro would be better for nighttime navigation because you can ramp up in red from extremely dim to just the level you need.

FWIW, I keep a LOD on my keychain and take it anywhere I go as long as I'm wearing pockets. The Proton Pro is beside my bed, and I carry the pro clipped to my waistband with me around the house in the evenings.

If you can't find anyting, I can take a pic of the LOD next to the Pro tonight. Sorry, but I sold my last Solitaire a while ago, so no pictures of it.

Oh, and BTW, :welcome:

if small size is your primary criteria, *AND* you really want a 1xAA light (instead of a 1xAAA) light, then the ProtonPro or LumaPower ConneXion is the way to go.

see this Post in another Thread for more info ==> http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?p=2527862#post2527862

skip the first couple of paragraphs or so, and begin reading below the "dashed" dividing line typed into the Post (i.e., the "----------------------" divider).

Are there any comparison shots of the Proton Pro or ConneXion.

My NiteCore D10 is the smallest 1AA light I've come across, which is one of the reasons I really enjoy using it as my EDC. It's not much bigger than some of the AAA lights and yet has so much more output.

Even though I own the L0D Q4 and LF2X, I prefer my D10 because of the clicky, longer run-time, brighter output, and not much bigger package for all these benefits.

and you could be right!

according to a quick check of some online retailers:

ProtonPro = 95mm in length

ConneXion = 92mm in length

D10 = 89mm in length

of course, the smaller diameter of the body of the PP makes the ConneXion and possibly the D10 (mine is in the mail, so i haven't held it in my hand yet) look a tad pudgey. also, the thin walls of the PP make it only weigh 46g w/clip and a Li primary AA cell. whereas, the D10 is 40g w/o the battery. sorry, couldn't find the weight of the ConneXion.

I grabbed a handful of lights hanging around and took a picture for you.

Left to right:
2xAA incan MiniMag, NiteCore Defender Infinity, Photon Proton Pro, LOD, E0, E01, DX Stainless 1xAAA light, KD Buckle light V2
