Oh my god this is the coolest party light ever! We got in a shipment of the things today and I'm keeping half of it for myself!

I'll post a more detailed review when I've had a chance to play with it some more... but wow!!!!!!!

Aren't these things cool?
Just holding them and moving about normally causes them to get all weird and shimmery.
Swing them around and that's when the real magic happens.

He has both types of light.
the bar type on the left and the dot type on the right.

Aren't there two versions of th Photon Rav'n?
If so, which one is making those neat f/x in your picture?

I was provided with both versions: the "ribbon" version on the left and the "dot" version on the right.

Because my camera's shutter speed is so fast even at its slowest, I attached rubber bands to the lights and whirled them around as fast as I could to obtain this picture.

In actual usage, you do not need to swing them around on a cord to get a nice effect. Simply waving them about with your hands causes them to pour out rainbows of light.

Who else has them, anyone have them in stock?

You ought to be able to obtain these from LRI. I don't know where else to send you.

I want one!

Which of the two do I purchase? If you had to buy only one of them, which to you like better, the bar or the dot?

This is largely a matter of personal preference. What I might like, someone else might despise.

That said, I myself would pick the solid (bar) version.

Photon Rav'n was delivered last night! My kids think this is the best LED light that I have purchased so far. We probably burned 1/2 the juice out of the first set of batteries already.

I purchased the bar design from http://www.nielsenlabs.com
for $29.95 plus $2.50 shipping.

Now, how do I get more of those crystals...

It is cool - can anyone explain how it works?
I havent seen one in person...... Thanks

I havn`t seen one myself yet either, I`m not really the raving type. But I can say with reasonable certainty how it`s done.

The LED is a special type that on the outside looks perfectly normal- except it`s probably a translucent opaque white colour not the usual clear. Inside is not one but 3 LED dies, one each red green and blue, these are all connected to a common cathode I believe, with 3 seperate anodes- the LED has 4 pins coming out of it. It`s hooked to a clever little IC that controls the on/off switch, and the LED. When on, it cycles the 3 colours really fast, one after the other, appearing like a flickery off-white coplour when stationary. When spun around though, the fast flashing colours break up into visible streraks or dots (depending on the type). They probably aren`t as bright as a regular Photon, but make up for that by just being really cool! And they`re housed in a seethrough blue case too.

That is a really good description Chris, and appears to be the way it is done. The LED has a semi-hard rubbery fitting that the plastic "crystals" snap onto to give the light more refraction. It adds quite a bit to the visual effect. Without the crystal, you get a strip of colored light when you swing it around. With the crystal you get a swath of light like a paint brush.

I am not much of a Raver either, but this will be fun for the 4th of July and my Dad's retirement party this weekend!

Also, it looked really unique so I had to have one.
